Guest guest
Barry, Glad you are having such exciting times with your ci. It brings backmemories of my own activation. Even though my initial ativation was terrific and I was able to use the telephone right away, I still kept getting improvements in picking up sounds that I had forgotten. Even today, 2 years later, I still pick up new sounds that I hadn't heard in years. Sitting outside listening to the birds was and continues to be one of my favorite sounds.. those of the early morning before most of the world is awake and bustling about. ( have to wait till spring again now that cold weather is coming on. I think it took me about 6 months to really enjoy music and to this day there's still a lot of music that sounds nasty to me.. and probably did before I lost my hearing too! I find listening to oldies and some of the newer country and easy listening music to be the best for me, but everyone has their own special niche music wise. Keep the posts coming. It's great to hear how well you are doing! hugs, Silly In , " Alice " <justagram@c...> wrote: > Barry - You are amazing. Keep these reports coming. They are very special to read. Guest guest
Hi Barry, How exciting! You are getting the results quickly...every CI users dream when they are first activated. I find that this excitment never dies...at least in my case. I had to work very hard to make my CI work for me the first time around 16 years ago last May. It took 3 months before I reached the point you are already at. Yet just yesterday I was at my audie's for a tune up. It brought me to a new level of hearing, and I listened to CI's all of the way home (3 hour drive) learning the words and tunes to songs I didn't know, feeling utterly amazed. Ruth First Mapping Hi Everyone! Well Monday 11/17 was my first mapping since activation day. The Report goes like this: Arrived at the Center for my 1:00 PM appointment. First we discussed where I was with the programs from Activation Day. I said I like the ACE program the best. Well I also told my Audilogist all the new sounds I have been hearing, etc. Well we then hooked up the BWP to the computer to program me all over again. All went fine as I turned the volume up for each electrode & re-set each one to a newl level. Yes there was changes from the week before. Well after about 1 hour it was time for the processer to be turned on. WOW!! What a difference. I am hearing more now than ever. Again we did stay with 4 programs. The first is the old from last week that I liked best. The next 2 are ACE as well but with all the new added maps. The fourth is a CIS program for me to try. We did sentences 10 of them with 2 works that sounded alike. I had to tell the Audi which word she said. Of course she did cover her mouth so I could not read lips. I had all 10 correct. Then she asked me " Did you drive the car here today " I said " Yes I did " . She had her mouth cover the entire time so I am really feeling Great! When we got home last night I was just bursting to use my new hearing. I was a mocking bird as I repeated everything my wife said as she used the phone. Ever tried TV without the Closed Caption & I world estimate I picked up 80% of what was being said. I really surprised people at work today with my ability to hear! I had the one girl in tears of Joy for me as I heard what she said about 15 feet from her. Excited is the Word! Looking forward to new sounds every day! What a Blessing to hear again as I have missed out on so much. Don't pass up the chance of a Life Time with a CI! Barry CI N 24 C Left Ear Oct. 1 Hook Up Activation Nov. 10 LOVING EVERY MINUTE! Guest guest
, Congratulations! It sounds like everything is going well. I am really glad to hear that you have some speech comphrension. I have heard that a lot of people don't have any speech comphrension the first day, just beeps. Those who do call it the " miracle activation " or " miracle mapping " . I am really happy for you. PS: I get my CI activated next Thursday, I am so excited. > > Hello All, > Thanks for the good wishes. Had my first mapping today, and Pete > Arkis from Cochlear was there. Guest guest
! What a wonderful activation you had! Being able to understand speech on the first day, how phenomenal. So glad you're feeling better. With such a tough recovery from surgery, a smooth activation is pretty sweet. Congratulations! Maggie > > Hello All, > Thanks for the good wishes. Guest guest
Hello, Must say nobody was more surprised than I that I got such good hearing so soon. It was HOURS into mapping when it happened, and they were all saying that it was because the ear hadn't had stimulation for 13 years, and time and patience and all that. Bushwah! Just needed the right map. And they did assure me that I was HEARING, so it would probably just take time. Still, people who get hearing right out of the gate, and understanding used to make me crazy! Because the rest of us had so long a struggle to get it. Now I guess I can make myself crazy eh? , Congratulations! It sounds like everything is going well. I am really glad to hear that you have some speech comphrension. Guest guest
SPEAK is the first mapping that was available way back 25 years ago when Cochlear first came out. It's a slow rate map that hits " spectral peaks " and picks out the best sounds with each sweep of the electrode array. ACE is a faster rate that does much the same thing, only faster. With my first CI, SPEAK was the only strategy available. Later ACE was available, and I tried it several times, but never adjusted to it. So, good to know there are several mapping strategies available to try. ACE is the " default " mapping for Freedom, and is the one they will always try first, because most people do very well with it. There is also a CIS strategy which is very fast, and a fixed map. That means it hits the SAME electrodes each time and very rapidly. ACE is kind of a cross between SPEAK - hitting whatever electrodes are best, and CIS being very fast. Many variables can be mapped with any of the strategies. What is Speak map vs. ACE map? Guest guest
Hi Maggie, Yes, maybe someone decided I'd suffered enough. LOL. The guy who drove me to my mapping appt thinks there are antennas on the moon that are sending us signals that affect our lives. What we put up with for a ride these days! Hearing more all the time, some of which I don't need to hear, like the washing machine filling with water. So removed the magnet, and apparently if the magnet is off for any length of time the implant turns itself off. Neat battery saving option. Also flashes lights to let you know it's working, its battery is low and so forth. Have to read the books and find out what all the crazy signals are. ____________________________________________________________ Best Weight Loss Program - Click Here! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/BLSrjpTFoYe4E6Mk6H019j3RNAUbGqoR6ayF\ ZWvhsvYrX1C81mbx9HlKM9q/
