Bayberry is very desirable in treating any problems associated with female organs and has an excellent influence on the uterus during pregnancy. It makes a good douche.Bayberry has been found useful to check menstruation. It can also be used for all kinds of hemorrhages, whether from the stomach, lungs, or excessive menstruation, and when combined with capsicum (cayenne) is an unfailing remedy for this.Bayberry is a stimulant which invigorates and strengthens the body. Bayberry is used as a tonic, stimulating the body and helping to raise vitality. This tonic effect creates a resistance to disease and helps to aid digestion, nutrition, and blood building. The tea taken warm promotes perspiration, improves the whole circulation and tones up the tissues.Bayberry when applied on the skin for cancer and ulcerated sores is a strong cleanser and healer. Poultices made with the root bark are said to help heal ulcers, cuts, bruises, and insects bites. For gangrenous sores, boils or carbuncles, use as a wash and poultice, or apply the powdered barberry to the infection. Bayberry's major effect is said to be on the mucus accumulation in the respiratory and alimentary tracts. It is an excellent gargle for tonsillitis and sore throats . It will thoroughly cleanse the throat of putrid material. It will help to heal canker sores in the mouth and the tea is an excellent wash for spongy and bleeding gums. In India, Bayberry and Ginger when combined together have been used to combat even the effects of cholera. Bayberry is reported to soothe the mucus membranes and to stimulate blood circulation. In diarrhea and dysentery, use the tea as an enema.Taken with yarrow, catnip, sage, or peppermint it is unexcelled for colds.Bayberry inhibits bacteria and therefore is a useful agent in fighting infection.Excellent results can be obtained from the use of Bayberry in goiter.For use with bad respiratory infections: Steep a teaspoon in a pint of boiling water for 30 minutes. Gargle thoroughly until the throat is clear, then drink a pint of lukewarm tea to thoroughly cleanse the stomach. (This should induce vomiting) If the contents of the stomach do not come up easily tickle the back of the throat. This restores the mucus secretions to normal activity. Bayberry is high in tannin content. This is what gives it it's emetic properties. Taking some milk with the tea will counter act this effect if you are taking this tea for other purposes.) For chills make tea as above adding a pinch of cayenne, and take a half of a cup warm every hour. This is very effective.Here is a recipe using bayberry for colds, fevers, flu, colic, intestinal cramps, and stomach pain: Bayberry (2 parts), Ginger (1 part), White pine (1/2 part), Cloves (a pinch) Cayenne (a pinch) Mix these herbs in the powdered form and steep approximately 1 teaspoon in a cup of hot water. Allow the herbs to settle and drink the tea. This recipe can also be put into capsules. Take 1-3 daily. Suzi What is a weed?
