Guest guest
Hello All, I have been pretty quiet this summer as we have been running around like crazy. Vacation, sick, Dr. appt.s, therapy appts., I can't find anytime to get back on schedule. Hopefully it will get better. But, I HAD to make time to share this story tonight. I was driving home from a friend's house this evening with the boys. Brixon was behind the driver's seat and Jaxon was behind the passenger's seat. It was dark and Jaxon had started crying like he was in pain. I looked back and asked him where his " ouchie " was. He pointed to his mouth. He is teething his last molars and had been telling me off and on that it hurt all day, but hadn't resorted to tears until then. I tried to reach back and pat his little leg but he kept crying and was bending forward as though he were in pain. I said to him in a nice, calm, quiet voice - not elevated at all - " I love you, " and then I looked in the rearview mirror to see if he heard me. He whipped his head up and whispered back (almost in awe that he actually heard and understood what I said), " I love you. " Then he kept saying it and waiting for me to say it back to him. We played this game until we got home and as soon as I parked the car, I got out and went to get him out (Brixon had fallen asleep) and he just looked up at me with pure love and said, " I love you. " Wow. Cochlear impants? They're the BEST! Kim (mother to fraternal twin boys age 3; Jaxon - auditory neuropathy/dyssynchrony with CI activated April '04, mild/moderate cerebral palsy; and Brixon - typically developing and FANTASTIC brother to Jaxon - when he isn't hitting, pushing or biting him :-) We did not have terrible 2's, but we sure are having TERRIBLE 3'S!) --- [Pre-scanned for viruses by Internet America.]

Guest guest
Kim, This was a very touching story and I'm so glad to hear that Jaxon is doing so well with his CI. It was just a few months ago that this special conversation could not have taken place. I'm sure this helps you to know that you made the right decision for him. You are right. Cochlear Implants are the BEST! Alice . I said to him in a nice, calm, quiet voice - not elevated at all - " I love you, " and then I looked in the rearview mirror to see if he heard me.
