Guest guest
Hi e, Also, welcome to the list. Jeff has a great web site filled with important information. I would definitely check that out--he and a's boys are beautiful--I think there are pictures of their family in the FILES (we should all upload pictures of our Texas angels). If you stick around very long here you will hear stories that may make you cry. I am sure there is someone out there that will laugh when I say this but, " Feel free to come on over to my house. " We live in NE San and there is no better way to see our story than to be a fly on the wall. My sister-in-law from Florida is visiting us this week. She has learned a lot about autism even though she is only on DAY 2, hee hee. I have a photo album comparing my son before his MMR disaster and then after when he began to enter the autism zone. I saw my oldest brother cry after a visit with us. He couldn't believe what we go through AND our life is easy compared to so many others. My door is always open to any family or person wanting to learn more about autism....I am not joking. BTW, I work for one of SA's districts in curriculum and instruction (I taught in the classroom for 7 years)-- I am paid to help teachers become better teachers.....so on that note---210-653-3803 or e-mail me at: autismzone@... I do not believe my child's autism was at all due to shots for she was very different to begin with. It's amazing how powerful the brain is. She only had light perception at birth but at 3 months there wasn't much she couldn't begin to say and not a toy she didn't play with. Everytime she said a word though she lost it until finally one day she had no language. At 21 months she started to hum songs at 3 yrs she sang the entire alphabet song and then lost that too she started school then and at four she began to use the words mama and daddy and still today has little more than that. Occationally she will be able to tell me about an event at school or an accident but it's always a very limited story but the school communicates very well so I am always able to learn the whole story. Rebekah didn't talk until she was 4 not even a babble. Her first language was screaming then her first words were cookie and candy, hehehe. Her speech is also pretty limited but she is able to communicate events and problems even if half of it is in sign language. With both of them I believe their brains were just over loaded. Both are incredibly intelligent and in my case it's a happy sight to see where they are now even though it is very challenging and there are still some very severe things going on. If we could just get Angel sleeping at night we would be just fine. Oh and on a nice note Angel is doing something new she has become interested in movies now. Barney and the Wiggles lol that is all she wants and she litterally plays those tapes till they are all worn out. Her other thing is music for the last 3 years we have had to listen to the same cd lol over and over and over whenever we are in the truck just to keep sanity lol. Oh a nice note though she can sing every song on that cd perfectly. Now if only we can teach her that those songs have words that have meaning and thus teach her to speak other than the crazy onliners she repeats infinitely. I am very lucky though I know if they have any language at all they are doing great. It's too funny how Angel can't really communicate but she is smoking her classmates big time academically. Well she is 7 in a kindergarden class and how it's possible I don't know but she is working on an 8 year old level already in her school work. both have had IQ tests administered by the school and both would top out on the tests if not for their behaviors and speech. Both are also very low one but getting better each day. Rebekah has some big sensory disorders the school doesn't acknowledge them but they do so many tactile things and I do as well so Rebekah is really making big progress. When she learns to write a little better she will really smoke her classmates and she will then be put in advanced classes. Both schools for both children say that each one of these children is academically over anyone else from pre-k through first grade in those schools. So I am very proud. Let me tell you though just yesterday both girls woke up and demolished our home entirely I don't know where they get it or how they do it but they just make trash appear from no where lol. Yep that's normal for little ones but I tell you if I took a picture of one of these moments you would all just fall out cause I have never in m life seen children mess up like this and I have seen and cared for alot of children in my life. I was of course mad so I told them both you have 3 seconds to clean this up and I mean get it done now! Let me tell you it actually took about 5 mins but they did it they surely did Rebekah even vacumed Angel folded clothes and both did the dishes and it looks beautiful once again. So, we went out for ice cream last night. I am so amazed at what they can do when I first made Angel fold clothes I had no idea she could I was just mad cause she messed up so lol but she did it. So all I can say is these babies are not " dis " abled they are " differently " abled and how much they can and will do depends on what we do. If we feel sorry for them and limit them like, " Angel can't fold laundry cause she is blind " then no she couldn't but I make sure to tell them and show them they can do anything so she really can Also, nearly all of the " professionals " in last years ARD had nerve enough to stand up and tell me Angel didn't have a lick of sense lol. I simply said, " You guys are very wrong! " and with that I fought and fought and here she is working above and beyond even many of the 2nd graders and I know that what she does takes at least 3 times more work then a normal child because of all she has to overcome with each and everything she does. I am lucky because the school never denighed her of anything as far as putting her in one of those assisted living classes they once tried but I stayed on them and on her and she's in a normal class . She has to be pulled often for mins at a time for her behaviors but geez I don't know how she does it. If I would have been pulled from class I would have been so far behind I would have never caught up and I don't have any challenges except for Asthma. The only thing Angel cannot do at this point is run independently or stand on one foot. she can even ride a bike she is slow and I have to steer it but she does it still and what's more amazing is that doesn't frustrate her a bit even though the slightest changes in routine does. It is impossible to redirect her on alot of things at this point but at least the school finally is going to help her in this area. Rebekah cannot be redirected and is very difficult to discipline but all in all she is a very good girl and she doesn't have the stimming problems she is sometimes a little self mutilating but it's nothing compared to Angel. Rebekah does have big obessessions but mostly with food. Like if she is eating spaghetti and it touches her skin she goes bullistic and will not eat till the next day. So if I give her a ton of napkins when she have spaghetti she is fine or something messy like that then she is fine. Things that she obsesses over I just don't buy or don't keep. Guest guest
I wanted to know what you all thought of that new show " The Little Couple " ... I really don't get to see it all that often..I am doing so many different things..and I have forgotten to tape it or watch it..but, I do think that it's a good show..I really like Jen.(The wife in the show) she is a great doctor..I wish that I had her as my doctor..after watching her taking care of a baby..I have to say that her calm demeanor and her voice is calming even to me..I have had doctors that are so careless and uncaring at times..they are not always " There for the patient " and I feel that to have a doctor that goes a long way out for you as she does..is fantastic! SHe's a doctor at a Texas hospital..and like I said..from what I have seen..she is fabulous! Her hubby is a really good guy..really sweet and caring..(not that he would not be..) but, he really is a great match for her and she for him!! I think that their show is a good positive thing to see..and although I am of average height..I still like seeing real people do what they do..and being extremely positive while doing it! Wondered what you thought..if any thoughts at all.. I would give this t.v. show five stars..even if it's pretty new..it rocks!!
