Guest guest
Would like to confirm, is that with or without surgery? Thanks . Regards/ Jerome GOOD NEWS for Clarion Candidates & Users !! (enjoy!!) Advanced Bionics' HiResolution Bionic Ear System Proven Safe for MRI August 17, 2004, Valencia, CA - Cochlear implant manufacturer, Advanced Bionics, announced that the HiResolution Bionic Ear System is now proven safe for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at 0.3 Tesla and 1.5 Tesla. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval this month, while regulatory agencies in Canada and Europe are currently reviewing submissions. " MRI has become a popular imaging tool for physicians, so it is certainly comforting for users of the HiResolution Bionic Ear System to know they have access to this diagnostic instrument, " said Doug Lynch, Director of Marketing Communications. " Even so, access to MRI is critical to only a very small number of people who require this form of imaging over other proven techniques, such as Computed Tomography Scan (CT Scan). Cochlear implant users are advised to consult with their implant surgeon before any imaging is performed, regardless of the imaging instrument, " Lynch added. MRI safety is only one of the special features of the HiRes 90K internal implant. The implant's small size, low profile and robust titanium case is ideal for all ages, even children as young as 12 months. Most importantly, however, the HiRes 90K implant features extremely smart CII internal electronics that are upgradeable without surgery. Guest guest
From what I understand.. this is after having the magnet removed just as one does has to have done with the Nucleus 24. A simple procedure that can be done in the dr's office small cut to remove the magnet, then replace it after the MRI.. Only requires a few days healing time. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks. I just checked it, here's what I found from AB's website: --- Titanium case: 5.5 mm total profile, with only a 2.5 mm prominence. Receiver/transmitter coil: 3-turn gold wire with platinum helix shielding. Magnet: Removable for 0.3 Tesla and 1.5 Tesla MRI. Housing: 28 mm x 56 mm flexible silicone x 5.5. --- You're right then. Guest guest
Yes, I just found out. AB - MRI approval does require removal of the magnet which would mean you would have to have surgery to remove the magnet. Just like Nucleus. As far as I know, the only MRI without surgery is Med-El. di (; > > Would like to confirm, is that with or without surgery? > > > > Thanks . > > > > Regards/ > > Jerome > > > > GOOD NEWS for Clarion Candidates & Users !! > > > > > > (enjoy!!) > > > > Advanced Bionics' HiResolution Bionic Ear System Proven Safe for > MRI > > > > August 17, 2004, Valencia, CA - Cochlear implant manufacturer, > Advanced > > Bionics, announced that the HiResolution Bionic Ear System is now > proven > > safe for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at 0.3 Tesla and 1.5 > Tesla. Guest guest
The allowed telsa is much lower for the Med El and it doesn't have a removeable magnet... so in a lot of areas it may be hard to find an mri machine that is capable of doing mri's on them.. they do exist though. I have a friend with Med El and while she loves the implant and is doing extremely well, she can't have an mri around our area as there are no available machines that have the lower telsa strength to perform the mri for her.. Not that she minds..LOL.. she hates Mri's..
