There is no way to tell how many fills you will need. Might be 1,

might be 10. You won't know until you have the band and begin

working with it.

I'm pretty sold on Dr. Aceves. I think it would be cheaper for you

in the long run to go with him anyway. Fills with him are included

in the original fees and $70 for the hospital radiology equipment.

More important is that going to him is safe, it's clean, he is

experienced, there is support after surgery, and I honestly don't

think you'll find the same quality of care than Dr. A.

I really did my research in a big way before deciding on Dr. Aceves.

I drove to Mexico and met with a family practice guy in Nogales and

he actually helped me research Dr. A. I did everything I could and I

honestly believe that Dr. Aceves is the safest person to go to for

the procedure and I include American docs when I make that

statement. His fees happen to be reasonable but I wasn't looking for

a good deal, I was looking for a good doc.

$500 is far too much for a fill. I'd keep looking if I were you.

Shane, I don't know exactly what you are wanting to hear from us but I will tell you the approximate money I have spent thus far. I live in Mobile, Alabama so I am also far, far away from Mexicali, Mexico. There are doctors here locally who perform this surgery but the cost is around $23,000. Needless to say, I couldn't afford that. I paid the money for my surgery in Mexicali without financing it so that was about $8000.00. I have had three fills, each costing approximately $80.00 (depends on the exchange rate). The cost of my plane tickets to San Diego were $351. for two of my trips and $280. for my last trip (just returned yesterday). Now, I have gone to the Peachtree Bariatric Center in Atlanta for two unfills (unexpected cost) and I paid them $350.00. You also have to take into account the cost of a hotel room in San Diego because of the distance we have to travel from the eastern

part of the U.S. I have paid around $80.00 for each night. Does this help? I will tell you that just going to Mexicali and having Dr. Aceves do my surgery AND my fills is worth whatever it costs me. It is kind of like those commercials: Lapband surgery: $8000.00 Cost of fills: $80.00 each Being a patient of Dr. Aceves: PRICELESS Let me know if you need to know or would like to know anything else. I've been banded a while (9 months) so I'll be more than happy to share information with you. Good luck on your decision and let us know what you decide to do. I would save money in the interim by going to Mexico to have this surgery performed, I would be paying money out again and again for fills over the next year. I have only found one guy near me that would do the fills and they run $500 per trip. That is steep since I have seen the cost being near $250-$300 other places. There is a program in Murfreesboro near me that will perform the surgery for $15,000 and that includes a full year of fills. I mean will I need 10 fills in a year? I don’t know and then I am concerned over any complications and not having anyone to care for me. Thanks,Shane

Shane: Fly to San Diego and Ernesto can pick you up at the airport and

drive you to the hospital for Dr. A to do the fill. Nina can set up a fill

for Saturday. You don't miss work and you can eiither go and come the same

day or spend a night and return. Either of these options is less than the

500 you would spend locally and the same doc that performed the surgery

follows your progress.

The cost to the hospital for the floro is about 75 or 80 bucks depending on

the peso/dollar conversion for that day.

Generally, I understand folks need 3-5 fills in a year. Everyone is

different, but ten fills seems excessive to me. For the difference in price

over time and the quality of care you received, the return to Mexico seems

worth it to me.
