Guest guest
I am sorta new here having been mostly lurking as I do not yet have a CI.........I spent Friday morning at the implant clinic in Vancouver and the good news is I qualify for a CI in my right ear. Our waits up here in Canada are fairly long so it will likely be a year at least until surgery. At least nowi know i will be getting one.......I was very anxious while waiting for my assessment.........so now I can relax a bit. I had a 50 word test of one syllable words.........I got ONE right on the right side and 14 on the left. That is borderline ........I do have some hearing on that side so the audi suggested I test drive an aid on the left before the surgery. I have never worn aids (have been severely deaf for approx. 30 yr.) for 2 main reasons. I did trials twice and never got any help with speech discrimination, so never went ahead as finances were a big factor. The audi wants to test me again with an aid on my " good " side and thinks I would do well with the implant on the right and aided on the left. As I have a year to wait anyway, I am going to try his suggestion and if it does help we will find the $ somehow. severely deaf for 30+ yr, awaiting surgery in BC, Canada Digest Number 1051 > ------------------------
Guest guest
Hi , You're not new here at all! I remember you way back in February. Seems like things are progressing for you and I hope the year that you have to wait will go quickly.

Guest guest
, Congrats on becoming a candidate for the ci. Many people who do have a ci wear a hearing aid in the unimplanted ear with excellent results, while others put their hearing aids away for good. I hope all goes well for you and that you do get some benefit from your hearing aid along with the implant. Since you have a good while before getting the ci, you should be well versed in what how the implants work and what to expect from yours. Stick with us and glad you are sharing your journey with us.
