Guest guest
I was told that since I had Annika bilaterally implanted now hair cell regeneration would not be an option for her down the road. This didn't really concern me because I have come to the understanding that Annika needs access to sound now not what is available in the future. I don't regret my decision in anyway and to hear her say Mama and be able to communicate with me is a more of a blessing than I could have ever hoped for with whatever technology is down the road. Mom of Annika 2 bilaterally implanted 3/1/04 hookup 3/25/04 cochleostomy.. > hi there, > > does anyone have any idea whether cochleostomy is irreversible? > > i did some search on the net regarding cochleostomy and unfortunately > couldn't find much info about it except in relation with cochlear implants. > > i was wondering, if we get ourselves implanted, and some day hair > regeneration is possible, will removal of implant still allow our cochlea to > function even if it has hole due to cochleostomy? just wondering... maybe it > will happen in 20 to 40 years from now. > > regards/ > jerome > > > >
Guest guest
Well.. we never know what the future holds so perhaps down the road this might be possible but not now. Alice does anyone have any idea whether cochleostomy is irreversible? i was wondering, if we get ourselves implanted, and some day hair regeneration is possible, will removal of implant still allow our cochlea to function even if it has hole due to cochleostomy? just wondering... maybe it will happen in 20 to 40 years from now. jerome
Guest guest
According to one of the NYU implant surgeons, who recently spoke at their annual forum, it is unlikely that implant patients will be able to enjoy the benefits of future hair cell regeneration. But who knows what the future holds really.....
