Guest guest
Beautiful, Carol. This is what it's all about. Those tears of joy are so very real. After all the wondering, your fears have been calmed. You came thru the difficult parts and yesterday was your reward. All those sounds that you enjoyed made every step to this day worth it, I'm sure. Congratulations! I'm very happy for you and I'm going to be looking for those ci moments because they are sure to come. What a nice message. Thank you so much for letting us know. One thing very few people mention is how the implant impacts a marriage. The spouse is a huge part of this process. I'm glad your husband was with you when you went for your activation. Have a wonderful hearing day, Carol. No thanks are necessary for the support we share. Now you know what all the excitement is about. Guest guest
One last email before I head for my dr appt. Carol, I am sooo happy for you. I know you've dreamed of this day for some time now and now you know that dreams do come true! Remember, it does get better, and you may even have some frustrating days ahead. The important part is that you were able to hear sound that first day so you know all is in working order. Hearing those grandbabies made me smile as that was one of my most memorable moments too. I actually got to hear my youngest grandsons cries at birth! So glad the hard parts are over now and hope to hear about your continuing journey with sound. Guest guest
Carol, I am very happy for you, and I was very much delighted and touched by your wonderful experience. This is indeed a great moment to treasure. Congratulations! " Can you understand me? " me she said as clearly as I have heard in more years than I can remember. Then my husband in a voice I could tell was choked with emotion said, " Honey, can you hear me too? " More tears and now I neeeded a kleenex. I would have drowned the processor in tears of joy. I was not looking at either of them to read their lips either. Next she did some fun testing kind of things with her face completely covered. vowels, colors, numbers, I'm missing the shh and r right now which she said is pretty normal as those are the last sounds kids learn. But I could repat to her almost 90% of what she said. The quality of what I am hearing is astounding for me. It does not sound so much mechanical as it sounds like there is an echo. I could tell the difference in pitch between her voice and my husbands though he sounded higher pitched than I had imagined. And all this with a body worn Platinum processor too as my auria had not arrived yet. Tomorrow I go back for the second map and the BTE is being overnighted. I had planned to go to a friends house to hide out as I anticipated not liking what I would hear at activation. I steped outside and could hear the traffic on the nearby highway, the car door open, and then close, a bell dinging and the ignition turn over in the car, my husbands excited voice as he asked, " can you hear that, can you hear that " . I wanted to go to our sons and see if I could hear the four young grandsons, two of whom I have never heard their voices. I could hear them all. Hello Grandma sounded so sweet and the smiles on their faces when I told them I heard that and now they were in trouble because I would be able to hear them. " No Grandma, I can be quiet " the ten year old told me. Their father, our youngest son speaks very low pitch and I lost his voice at least 15 years ago. Though I could not catch every thing he said I could understand most of it. And I knew the difference between his voice and his wifes. Things are like I said a little echoing and more than one person at a time is not clear. We went to a third sons house then and again the youngest of their two boys I heard for the very first time, and again I could tell the difference of his voice from his older brother. Other sounds I can hear, the water from the faucet, paper not sounding un pleasent at all when rustling just sounding good to me. A dish in the sink, a book sat down on the counter. I feel like a sponge wanting more and more. Things seemed to be changing a little then so I flipped to the second slot which Amy said was just a little louder, then tried the third slot too, also just louder. Not uncomfortable at all but not nessecarily clearer so I went back to slot one. But now I felt exhausted and sleepy so went up to bed to read and it was only 9:30. It had been an emotional, wonderful day. I woke up at 2:30 and just lie listening to the silence and wanting to get up and put the processor back on. LOL. I decided to come down stairs and log on to share all of this joy with all of you. Thank you my CI friends who have helped prepare me for this day. Of course I thanked my surgeon and his team even before activation earlier in the day. I'll keep my CI moments coming.
