August 23rd. As the date gets closer, I'm thinking of some questions for those of you who have already "been there": As a diabetic (non-insulin, controlled by oral medication), do I continue with unsweetened beverages, or will I need the calories from sweetened liquids? How much discomfort is there in the first few days post-op? How did you feel when you woke up from anesthesia? Are liquid vitamins recommended by Dr. Aceves, and if so, what is a good brand? I'm sure I'll think of some more questions, but that's it for now! Thanks, Eileen D.

HI Eileen, My name's Janice I was banded on 7/3/06. Personally I was in very little discomfort unless of course I tryed to sleep on my left side or even thought about sleepin on my tummy. I brought gas-x strips (walmart) and a thermos for broth to take back on the plane because I was flying back to Honolulu. They give you liquid tylenol at the Dr's and that helped with any additional pain that wasn't gas related. Personally I was able to swollow capsels with no problem so I take 2 womens vitamens from GNC and one multi-vitamen Viactive and two calcium viactives through out the day... The viactives taste like candy to me so it cut any craving I may have had for candy right away. Also Isopure was my best friend those first two weeks because I needed to go back to work right away so I wanted to make sure I'd have the energy and I acctually like the taste of some of them. There are two web sites

that helped me a lot 's web site and my dad's because they both have charts and suggestions for what to eat when. 's is www.tracyslapband.com and my dad's is www.carothersweb.com this is also where our chat site is and it may help you to try and catch it. Living in Honolulu I am never there cause I'm 3 hours before California and so by the time I'm home the rest of the world is dead asleep. This chat room's always open though so you could coordinate with some others to show up at a certain time that way you'd be able to ask them questions as they come up. Hope this helps :) and feel free to email me and check out those sites :) OH YEAH you know the one thing I'm glad I did bring was my own robe and night gown. Hope you're feelin great :) and as others would say "welcome to the loosing side" :) JaniceDOB 7/3/06 248/235/130

Janice, The chicken broth in the thermos is such good advise. When I was flying back from mexico I was so hungry and weak from hunger and my husband had to eat so he did in front of me! Well, we went all over the airport to every resturant and food stand to find both or chicken soup so I could drink the broth from that. We didnt find any so I settled for a cup of tea. I wish I would have thought to bring a thermos of broth. So, those who will sone been banded, TAKE A THERMOS for broth. ---Liquid vitamans can really, really suck. I tryed several kinds

spending lots of moolah and they all went down the drain. The one with

green tea stained the sink!!! GNC has some great chewables loaded with

vitamans and no suger.

As for the surgery some folks , like myself fly thru like , " WoW is that

it " I took a week off of work and glad I did for time to ajust and the

get my bowels under control which I had to use a little medumucil. I

welcomed the cleansing the first few days. But, I could have worked.

Please do prepare for the liquid phase tho, cuze it can be tough. I

still cant look at jello. One other thought is calories are calories,

jucies can be the highest, you are about to begin a new way of eating.

I dont lose if I dont stay under 900 calories, thats just me of course

you will have to find your own limits, Some folks do gain weight on

liquids due to the high calorie content. Whishing you lots of positive,

uplifting, rewarding days ahead.

Hi there!!! First, congratulations on your surgery date. I had my

surgery on 1/27/06 and have done quite well. I can't say about your

drinks but guessing, I'd stick to what you are doing now with

unsweetened drinks. I have cut most of my sugar out of my diet,

other than what comes in fruit and some foods. I don't drink sodas

or orange juice, just strickly water and ISOPURE Protein

water...which some are yucky but I've heard if you mix with Crystal

Light it's better. As for after the surgery, i was up 2hrs

afterwards walking around, all I can remember was some aches here

and there but mostly I did fine. Take a hot pad with your or

ThermaCare Hot Patches, they heat up once exposed to air and you can

put that on your shoulders or wherever the gas builds up and you

feel achy.

Pamper yourself when you get home, DONT DO HOUSEWORK...let me tell

you I learned a hard lesson and I was in pain...so let others help

you! All in all you are in very good hands, I have had one fill so

far and will be back on Oct 7th for my second fill. I've lost pretty

good though I am in a plateau right now but have lost 130lbs +/-

water retention...gotta love that!!!

Anywho, just take your time and enjoy the " new " you that will slowly

develoop over time. Believe me I am enjoying life alot more now, I

work out 5x's a week, got a very hectic job but I am able to keep up

now than I ever would before the surgery and I enjoy getting stares

at nice looking guys...woo hoo!!! Anywho, Best of Luck to you!!!

Take Care and update when ya can. If you want to email me go ahead

and I will do my best to email back.

Hi Kira,

I emailed ya but thought I would reply on here as well. Yes, I did

have a fill, in fact my photos are on the board. It's been a great

journey, I am still learning how to eat, somedays I can eat certain

foods and other days it doesn't go over well, best thing to Listen

to your body..Pay Attention...which is sometimes my problem. Listen

to what Dr. Aceves has to say, he know's his stuff and if you go by

his way, you'll succeed. One thing is when you are about 2 or 3mths

think of getting into a gym or any type of exercises which will help

shrink up the skin pretty well. Drink lots of H2O, it's good to keep

the skin healthy. Best Wishes!
