Hi this is a real toughie? If anyone knows let me know too!

I don't eat out because it is such a bind! I am piscoperian too

which makes it harder (veggie who eats fish). To be honest eating

out doesn't appeal to me, I don't want to get food poisoning and so I

prefer to know who has touched my food and what has gone into it!

Sometimes though it would be nice to have a break from cooking!

YIKES how weird!

I have had some strange experiences, but I think cuz we are sorta out in kinda

the boonies, places can get away with treating customers poorly, sometimes, and

no- very rarely are customers compensated. One week we went thru drive thrus 5

times- OK OK so - ignore I allowed us to eat so much fast food- it was a BAD and

BUSY week, the whole time spent in the car. Not one time out of 5 consecutive

drive thrus was our order right. Once we even got a cheeseburger with NO MEAT!

(I used to order that for the kids as toddlers, but- still)

I went to Culvers Fri for a hot dog- I wanted " everything on it " so- the

counter girll said oh, lettuce tomato mayo. I was like no- a HOT DOG- with

everything, and again she said lettuce tomato mayo, I said no that is not what

is on a hot dog- well the 3rd time we had this exchange I walked out still

hungry.

Today my husband picked up Mcs for 5. 3 of the sandwhiches the wrapping

was not really wrapped around the sandwhiches- so all the lettuce went all over

in the bags and 4 peices of bun came loose. The sauce for chicken nuggets was

not there at all. and altho we ordered 2 chicken sandwhiches the same- the

condiments were different- VERY different between the 2. went BACK inside for

them to fix it- and the sundaes were solid mush ----the fries were cold and even

the drinks had began to melt their ice and tasted awful- but- our McDs would NOT

replace those items-

ah the joys of living in the country- they KNOW there are so few places to go no

matter how crummy service might be. Our McDs also used to never have enough

Happy Meal toys for a week- but they never had anythng to substitute either.

Yesterday we were out in a nicer restaurant and ordered a milk shake- well, they

were out of shake glasses- those tall glasses they put shakes in? SO they

served it in a juice glass----- a TINY juice glass- well, a shake is like $4 so

I said um- excuse me- are you going to reduce the price? Um, no- I cannot

reduce the price- the computer won't let me. I said well- then- I do not want

this, I am NOT paying $4 for THIS little thing.

AT Taco Bell once, I placed my order, paid, got my food and THEN the window

person said- oh by the way we are out of cheese and lettuce- so your food does

not have cheese or lettuce. YEESH- sure tell me AFTER I have paid and gotten

the food? Yeah right.

rest of my order (after I mentioned the Americans with Disabilities Act) at the

window. I went to pay and he said it was free as a courtesy. I kindly thanked

him and went on my way. I wonder if they have now changed their policy. The

customer service person said they would have someone call me back. Still

waiting for the call. What a hassle, just to get some fast food.

Hi there,

It's always easy to boil some eggs and keep a few in the fridge for

snacking. It also doesn't take long to scramble up a couple of them

when you're hungry.

A spoonful of coconut oil satisfies my snack cravings when I just

" need a little something. "

You can also eat cold, cooked meats.

sorry, I didn't understand your question...it sounded like you were

aksing for snack suggestions.

I've found restaurants to be quite accomodating....definitely do ask

to have the veggies saute'd in butter if that's what you want.

Those cold steamed veggies you received could have been sent back to

be put right back in the steamer to be re-heated. You can ask the

waiter to bring butter to the table and add as much as you want.

I've heard some people here on the list say that take their sea salt

with them to restaurants to season foods with it.

You could also eat the egg yolk raw. It too takes getting used to but much

quicker.

Especialy because the restaurant's butter will be preseasoned with NaCl

instead of sea salt or unsalted. Then again their butter is homogenized. I

have yet to find a restaurant in Tennessee for example that I can eat

without compromising on the quality of the ingredients.

What is NaCl? Should I be buying only unsalted, raw organic butter? I

haven't seen any non-homogenzied around here so far, just unsalted.

I get my butter from a local farm that does not process butter other than

turning the milk cream into butter. I also buy raw milk from local jersey

cows.

You can also make your own butter with raw cream and a food processor and

then if you want to season it with sea salt, you can. I don't add sea salt

to mine until cooking time where I'll add as much or as little sea salt to

taste. Yumm

Sodium Chloride commonly refered to as table salt.

I'm not that good at making lettuce taste decent with lemon or lemon and

oil. My mother-in-law, who was from Italy, was the bomb and using those

two ingredients. She did the BEST vinaigrette I have ever tasted. But,

somehow, I have never gotten the nack. :-)

Restaurants, particularly in the U.S., do not have to let customers

know what foods are being irradiated. Many meats and vegetables in

the U.S. ARE being irradiated. You avoid buying irradiated foods,

while restaurants wouldn't bother because it is less expensive to buy

regular commercial foods.

==>Otherwise it isn't that horrible to eat non-organic foods, and

eggs would be quite safe (I don't believe eggs are irradiated in any

case). Ask for poached eggs to avoid bad oils and fats. One meal or

cheat isn't going to set you back a lot. When I go to restaurants or

to someone else's place to eat I take my own ocean sea salt and salad

dressing - LOL! If I go to a friend's place and I know they do not

use butter I also take it with me.

organic " too. The best foods are " certified organic " because they

are highly regulated. " Organic " is a term that is not regulated and

it can be used " willy nilly " by any company even if their foods are

contaminated. " Organic " foods do not guarantee they are good - it's

some health stores mistakenly label foods as " organic " when they are

trully " certified organic " , particularly their fresh produce, so if

you see " organic " labels doublecheck with the manager.

==>Even though it is ideal to eat " certified organic " foods, it is

okay to eat organic or non-organic foods " if they are not

irradiated, " rather than avoid them, i.e. particularly meats. Even

if foods contain antibiotics, pesticides, etc. it is more important

to obtain the nutrients in them if that is all a person can afford.

Also this diet helps your body eliminate the bad stuff in such foods.

Be very careful. Eating out leads to weight gain, due to the relative high

calorie count in restaurant meals, especially if any soda or alcohol is ordered

with it.

I lost 30 pounds by yoga and stopping eating out. FYI.

I know eating out isn't the most healthy way to eat, but you can make wise

choices that aren't too bad. I never order soda or alcohol...I'm sure there are

those who have plenty of that even at home. I usually take half of my food home

for another meal. I enjoy eating out not only because cooking has become more &

more difficult & dangerous with weakening hands, but it is also an opportunity

to get out of the house.

So far I haven't had any problems with weight. Six months of chemo took care of

that. I am beginning to gain it back though & I realize it wouldn't be wise to

be overweight. It would just make things harder & it would be tough to lose when

you can't exercise much.

Yes, it makes it immensely harder to do things. I can't even imagine how I

carried the weight.
