IMO, the best person to ask would be your audie,, he/she will know what is

best for your personal needs.

I know you are addressing but she she won't see this until she gets home

from work so I'll see if I can help you because you sound frustrated. I do not

have the Auria so this is just my opinion and perhaps some of the AB users will

offer some help with this.

You have been without hearing for 20 years and you are not used to all the

sounds you are now hearing - some of which are in the high pitch range. This

may be what appears to you to be beeping. I know that the Auria sensitivity has

to be set by the audiologist and is a fixed setting so perhaps your sensitivity

needs to be raised so that you aren't picking up quite as much but this is only

a guess on my part. Hopefully, you have a second mapping session scheduled

within a couple of days as it sounds as if the audiologist needs to map you

again but you should write down every sound you are hearing that is bothering

you and take it with you so that the audiologist can adjust you map to fit your

needs better. If you don't have an appointment I'd call and see if I could get

one.

As far as wearing the hearing aid on the other side goes, I'd ask the

audiologist what she thinks but we do have some evidence that it is beneficial.

If you look in the links there's an article about binaural hearing in two

sections but to make it easier to find, go to the bilateral implant file and

look for this report. You might print it and take it with you to the

audiologist but she is your medical specialist on this and would have the best

answers for you. When I had my implant in 1999, it was recommended that I wear

my hearing aid on the other side as I had a little residual hearing and the

doctor thought I'd benefit from it during the adjustment. This required me to

do another adjustment 6 months later when my hearing on the right went

completely. I had to adjust to hearing with only the CI and even though this was

necessary, I didn't struggle with the adjustment.

I'm sorry that this was not as easy as you had hoped. Please try to be patient.

If you work with the audiologist, it should improve over time. Everyone is

different so don't put pressure on yourself. Just don't give up.

Alice

I understand that I'd be hearing new sounds and it'd be uncomfortable but why

am i hearing beeping along with the sounds? It makes me wince.

Do you suggest wearing hearing aid while wearing the device?

Yes! All the beeping and squeaking and white noise after my hook-up was

horrible. I think the beeping was my initial perception of all the high

pitched sounds coming in that made no sense to me at all! It really does get

better, Alice's post said it all very well!

how does it get better?

I'm trying to figure out how to tell my audie how to adjust the CI when I go in

for my next mapping this coming tuesday.

i'm hearing the S sounds " ssssssssss " better than " lalalalala "

the lalala sounds more of beeping, when the s sounds more realistic. any ideas?

I've arranged a hearing therphy for this friday.

I went to bed last night and realized that I was hearing aftereffect of the CI.

Heh. I'm also feeling some *thing* in my chest, sometime I feel like this is

what a heart attack would feel like.
