Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am seriously looking into getting the lap band and have heard very good things about the Doctors in Mexico. I've met one person who got her lap band in Mexico and have a friend who got hers in the US.I am going to a seminar on the 25th, that a US Doctor is putting on, near where I live in Port Orchard. I just happened to see on the internet " news " where there has been a shooting in a hospital in Tijuana. It didn't give the name of the hospital, but did say it had 7 floors and that 3 people had been killed. It was seven gunmen trying to free a prisoner that was brought in for treatment of some kind. This has kind of freaked me out! Can anyone tell me about the area where they went to get there band? Is it safe? Thanks everyone! Theresa
Guest guest
It is in Mexicali and the hospital is very small. Guest guest
Therese, I had my surgery in Mexico in May of last year. It is a very safe clean area. The hospital is a private hospital and cleaner than any US hospital. The Dr. Aceves and his staff are sooo nice and they treat everyone like family. You can google the Dr and get all the info on the hospital. Most everyone on this board went to Dr A. for their surgery and everyone think he is the greatest. One thing about going to Mexico you don't have to jump thru all the HOOPS that they require before you have surgery. Everything is included in the price. $8200 when I had mine. You fly into San Diego and Ernesto (very sweet nice guy) will pick you up in a van and tske you to the hospital. You can even take a companion with and they will put you and them in a hotel after the Dr does your pre-opt. You spend the night in a very nice clean hotel where they will pick you up the next morning and take you to the hospital for your surgery. You stay 2 nights your companion can stay in the room with you and it does not cost them anything. The third day Ernesto will take you back to the airport and you fly home.. The hospital is only about 2 miles from the border. I have been back 2 times for fills and I went by my self the last time (March 26th) of this year. Guest guest
Tijuana does have a bit of a reputation, and for good reason. Mexicali is a couple of hours away from Tijuana and very safe. I go down there all the time and I walk around at night by myself. No worries. When I was banded I woke up early one AM and couldn't go back to sleep. About 5AM I went outside to get some fresh air and a security guard saw me walk out of the hospital. He came over and sat down with me. I couldn't have been alone if I wanted to. Please don't misunderstand, I certainly didn't mind. But this is a small private hospital vs. a large public hospital. They have the staff to do these things. This is one of the reasons I chose Dr. Aceves, I didn't want to go to Tijuana either. I mean, my primary reason was Dr. Aceves, but if Dr. Aceves would have been in Tijuana I'm not actually sure what I would have done. Mexicali is on the border and Calexico, California is on the US side of the border. It's about 40 miles west of Yuma, Arizona. Guest guest
Hi, I think TJ gets a bad rap because it's a very populated area and lots of traffic in and out, not so much over in Mexicali. Remember, TJ is leads right into SDiego, so alot of drugs and other contraband go through that area, thus the crime is alot higher than in Mexicali. Mexico does have it's share of problems, but then after the VA Tech incident so do we, it's just that it's a different country so people are more apt to focus on that than here at home. No where is completely safe, however Mexicali is not like TJ. I do know that the plastic surgeon I am being referred to is in TJ, and I am sure that these places are just right across the border and they offer transportation, so I should be safe. Many of us walk across the border to get picked up by Yolanda at the nearest hotel, and I've not had any problems. The hospital Dr. Aceves is in is very safe, and very clean. There are many of us who have come and gone from there and will continue to visit because of the quality care we receive. Guest guest
Hi, I dont think any hospital or school in any country is immune from violence. Those shootings are freak. It is not the normal. Imagine not sending your kids to school because of it. You will get the highest quality of care at the Alamater Hospital. Dr A and his staff are number one. Which ever way you chose best of luck KIra ---- luv_a_wallflower1 <tjuel@...> wrote: > Hello everyone, > > I am seriously looking into getting the lap band and have heard very > good things about the Doctors in Mexico. Guest guest
Going to TJ would have been a deal breaker for me. In my opinion, it's a dangerous place where most people go to get, or do, illegal and sometimes unimaginable things. Maybe I'm tainted because I grew up in Orange County, CA, and back in high school in the 80's, I lost 6 classmates who went to TJ to party and never returned. Two seperate intances. That scares me to this day. I felt safe walking around in Mexicali, not once feared someone might harm me. The scariest part was getting back over the border. Some man was toweling off my car for like 30 minutes while I waited in line, then border patrol yelled at me. LOL. That was because I drove in with my own car. If Ernesto drives you in, you will be in the safety of his van.
