Hi Gang,

My name is misleading as I have not had the surgery, but in my heart I

am a part of your family. Here is my problem.

I have decided to have the surgery with my husbands support. However,

we have a cruise scheduled the week of Thanksgiving. Should I wait till

after the holidays to have the surgery or get it done asap so I can

settle into my new life prior to the cruise.

I can only rely on those that have had the surgery to make this

decision.

Thanks and blessings to all in advance...

I say go for the surgery... You will be well on your healing by

thanksgiving. You will also be able by that time to eat anything(almost

fill time) Maybe take the cruise and then have your first fill.. This is

when your new life will begin.... You could be down 25lbs by your 1st fill

date. I was and many of us are, even though its just the healing period,

good luck in your decision and you will be glad you picked dr. Aceves and

his team.....

, If I were you, I would have my surgery prior to you cruise. First, Because you will be feel better because you have lost some weight. Second, we all know that you can gain a little weight on a cruise.Third, you will need to be on a pre-op diet that will help shrink your liver before surgery. So, I would have my surgery a least a 1 month or 1 & 1/2 months before ( and I only say that because you cruise is in November) Really I would have made my surgery date 3months prior to. Anyways, thats what I would do. Then agian the food on those cruises...yummmmm! I say go for the surgery before your cruise and don't think twice about it. If you don't you will be miserable from all the eating that you will do while cruising and you will probably gain extra weight.....just like most overweight people do on a cruise! If you have your surgery first, you won't be quite so interested in the food and the smaller portions you eat will taste 100 times better!!! Each morsel will simply melt in your mouth! It is early September. It would be possible to be 25-30 pounds lighter before your cruise if you had your surgery AND focused on and did exactly what Dr. Aceves tells you to do. Hey, speaking from experience, IT WORKS!!! I am 6 months out and have lost almost 70 pounds. Let us know what you decide to do! My post is going to seem harsh in comparison to the others you've

received, but in my opinion . . .

I say go on the cruise and enjoy yourself and THEN come back and

schedule your surgery. This close to cruise date you will still be

healing and on your liquid phase, neither of these will contribute to

a good time vacation.

I am not saying that the surgery is bad and I completely believe that

this will be a great thing in my life (I'm 13 days out), but I notice

on these posts that the old-timers (those who are already on a

regular diet) seem to gloss over the misery of recovery. The liquid

diet phase sucks! I am hungry and I'm sick (I developed a horrible

cold), and I can't even keep my strength up with nourishment. And

the promises of losing 25 - 30lbs are also dependent upon each

individual (and far-fetched). You may only lose a few pounds

initially.

So, truthfully, HAVE the surgery! It will change your life, but if

you already have a special time with your husband planned go and

enjoy that now. The rest of your life has waited this long, two

extra weeks will not be the end.

Dear ,

Obviously, you are the only one who will really know in your heart

is the right move for you to make, however:

I had my surgery on July 20th of 2006, knowing that my daughter

would be getting married on August 19th. I would do it again that

way in a heartbeat- I recovered nicely, felt terrific, and had lost

a few sizes ( bless the little liquid diet's heart) by the day of

the wedding, and enjoyed the little tastes of the reception food

that I could tolerate. For me, getting started on my new life lifted

my spirits in a way that nothing else ever would have- and my smiles

in the wedding photos are MUCH brighter just because of the 4 weeks

prior to the wedding.

Instead of being miserable about appearing in my daughters wedding

photos wearing a size 22, I was able to be pleased that I couldnt

wear the size 28 dress that I had already ordered. Knowing that by

their first anniversary, I will be further along on my own journey

made the day that much more special and enjoyable for me.

Of course, some folks might tell you to take the cruise and enjoy

the lavish buffets- you can always lose it later. But I feel alot

like Crystal in " When Harry Met Sally " - at the end of the

movie, whene he tells Meg that he wants to spend the rest of

his life with her?..... For me, once I decided what the rest of my

life was going to be, I didn't want to wait for it to begin....I

wanted to get started right NOW!

Good luck in your decision,

I have to agree with TJ, I know I would not have went on a cruise 3mos post-op. I still had pains here and there, pb'd on alot of things, burped all the time ect...Maybe if you didn't have your 1st fill till after you return you would do pretty good! I felt great before my first fill (no restriction in the band of course:) Anyway, have a great cruise either before or after, the surgery isn't that bad, but it does take some getting used to!! Dana

It is a personal decision, of course, but my suggestion would be to

get the surgery asap. If you can get it done in Sept you still have

all of October and much of November to heal and to lose weight and

to be more comfortable with yourself. You can wait (weight??lol)

until afterf the holidays, but guess what--after that one there are

MORE holidays. If you get the procedure done you won't be

anticipating the unknown all through the cruise and you will be a

loser with the rest of us. Good luck with your decision. I did NOT

mind the liquid phase--in fact, for a while I was concerned that I

might never want to leave that phase and face food choices again

(but I got over that just fine).
