I am 10 days post-op and doing great! The first 6 days following surgery were VERY hard. I had no energy at all. I never regretted my decision one moment, but longed to feel better. I developed this wierd gag reflex at the thought of drinking isopure, jello, and broth. It is amazing what the mind can do!It wasn't until 8 days post op that I really started to feel like myself again. So far, I've lost 24 lbs. since I started the pre-op diet until now. I'm pleased, but know things will slow down as I add milk, yogurt, cream soups, etc. and that is OKAY with me. So today being day 10... I took off the surgical tape and my husband was prepared to take my stitches out. one BIG problem... my incisions have healed OVER the stitches and the knots on each end. I guess my skin is really efficient at healing, but come on!Not sure what to do about this, short of my husband slicing my skin on the end of my incisions to get access to the knots so we can cut and pull. Did this happen to anyone else????!!!! What did you do??!!Appreciate any ideas!! Hello to all the June 16th bandsters!!! Guest guest
Hi Jenn, I had a couple of incisions that did the same thing but my understanding was just to pull on one side and pull it through. I did not have any knots to cut or atleast I didnt cut any. One of my incisions that was really healing well kind of hurt when I pulled out the stitches but other than that I had no problems. Oh I had a bit of oozing from my port incision but its all healed up now. So that was my experience with my stitches. I hope it helps!! Tammy I. Talk is cheap. Guest guest
// my incisions have healed OVER the stitches and the knots on each end. // This is obviously a question Nina is better suited to answer but I will tell you my experience. I did not have any knots in the stitches. There were just plastic (for a lack of better words) stitches straight across the incisions. I pulled one end and the stitch came out. If I were you, I would speak to Nina before letting your husband cut you, especially in the area that is healing. You may infect the incision and do more harm then good. 7/18/05 280/180/
Guest guest
//. Do you have a knot to cut? // I did not have a knot. it has been almost a year since my surgery so i don't know if they do any thing differant. I just pulled on one end and the stitch came through, No KNOT. //I also have 3 of them that are red and are draining a little. Is that normal? // I think some minor dranage is normal. If it is running out of the incision i would call Nina. //They are a little sore. Any advice?// I put Neosporin on mine (after removing the stitch). I dont know if i was supposed to but I thought it couldn't hurt. 7/18/05 280/180/
Guest guest
My port incision is still seeping. I wash it with hydrogen peroxide an change the bandage daily. It seems to be closing except for an opening about a 1/2 inch long. I know people dread taking the stiches out. I was one. I did not feel a thing. One other great thing. I havent been able to put my wedding ring on since November. Guest guest
there is no knot - just cut one side down as close as possible and pull from the other end - they slide right out... caprise =)kshosho@... wrote: Ok I am confused. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the responses! I think Kameron and I just imagined the knot part. And this afternoon I found my post op page with the stitches information. HOORAY! Of course, that was after I went to my doctor this morning to have him take the stitches out. Ugh... I guess I'm a wimp. Kira~ Congrats on the wedding ring news! That is fantastic!!! Jenn

I also had about 1/2 inch that was open and I thought it would never heal. As long as it is not red and irritated, I don't think it's a problem. Just keep it clean and keep an eye on it. I put the Neosporin on mine. I dont know if it helped but I am sure it didn't hurt. If you are really concerned, you should give Nina a call. 7/18/05 280/180/
Guest guest
No Knots , just a zigzag of suture under the skin. The reason he asks you to cut is so that you do not have to pull more suture through but there are no knots... Guest guest
Jenn, The doctor said to not cut your skin open to remove them, he said to watch them carefully each day and an end should stick out so you can pull on it.
