Guest guest
The basic recipe for making a tincture: I think people who want to make tinctures forget the directions because they're so darn easy!!! I think they expect them to be more complicated and so they always think they forgot something. Like when Carol said.."I need cayenne and vodka and what else"? lol! THAT'S IT!!!!! It looks like it should be complicated but once you make one you'll find out there's nothing to it. Really!!! It's cheap 80-90 proof vodka, some herbs, a blender and some jars. I know the first time I was the same way. I really thought it was going to be a major project and was amazed at how simple the whole procedure is. Guest guest
I assume you don't heat anything?? You mean heat the herbs? Nope. No heat. You take a handful of herbs (nettles, whatever). Throw them in a blender. Pour the vodka over the herbs. Really make sure you have about an inch or 2 of vodka covering the herbs. Turn on the blender. Pour the slurry mix into a glass jar. Then let it sit in a dark place. The herbs will eventually sink to the bottom and the vodka will float to the top. I never made a tincture with fresh herbs. I know dried ones are more potent in most cases.
Guest guest
Gloria, Thanks. I would love to do a nettle tincture. I may have to use dried nettle to begin and then I have to buy the vodka too. So no heat and the dried nettle will just release it's properties sitting in the vodka. I didn't realize you put it in a blender. Is this when you start the process of mixing he vodka and herbs, then letting it sit in the jars? I assume you don't heat anything?? Store in cool place?Carol,I make the tincture and pour it from the blender into clear quart-sized glass Ball jars. Put the lid on and store them in the cupboard, shaking them everyday (if I remember). When I want to make a formula or tincture to take with me I pour some into a dark glass little dropper bottle. Just keep the initial tincture out of any light while it's "processing".Gloria
