Guest guest
It has been very quiet! I have an excuse of sorts. I write mortgages for a living, something I've done for 20 years, so when rates dipped below 5% in mid-December, I got buried with work! I have been getting to the office around 7:30 or 8 in the morning and not leaving until after 8 at night. Needless to say, I have not been focusing on exercise or nutrition. The rules and regulations and programs for loans change every day, so my stress level has been pretty high. One of my co-workers says you can't be in this business and survive without drinking. Well, I don't drink, but I have been eating. I can't eat much at a time, but I can " graze " and seem to be doing it constantly! Wouldn't be bad if I grazed on grapes, but I seem to need chocolate (It is one of the major food groups!) and gummy bears. I need to get back on track and I'm hoping to go to MGB University, if you'll allow an MGBer who wasn't Dr P's patient. With the stress eating and lack of exercise, I have gone from pant size 12 to 16. I have some wonderful size 16 Coldwater Creek capris that I'd love to give away as soon as I shrink again! OK, now it's your turn! Where is everyone and that means you! Marilyn
Guest guest
Good to hear your story, . I am only two years out and am having trouble staying on track as well. Old habits die hard. I'm slowly gaining weight - aaargh. The reasons I got fat in the first place - hunger, stress, habit, socializing, lack of exercise etc. etc. etc. - are still there. I can't seem to get my head around the fact that I can't stay thin without exercise and diet. So far my blood work is good. I recently went to a neurologist to evaluate a brain scan I had for hearing loss. Fortunately everything was okay. He did mammoth blood work tests, tho, and told me my B-12 levels were fairly low. He also said because of my weight loss surgery, B-12 levels at about the three year mark fall too low which can cause neurological problems. He put me on a once a month vitamin B-12 injection. Anyone else? Any feedback? Diane Day Dr. R - 5-31-07 236/157/172/135 Before/Low/Now/Goal ________________________________ From: " TreeBee123@... Guest guest
My son is a chef and he complained to his doctor that since he is in a kitchen all day and constantly tasting food that it leads to grazing and snacking and his doctor gave him some good advice. He told my son that whenever he found himself snacking to stop immediately and make himself a meal. He said it would help my son to regain a sense of control over his food choices. It it has really helped my son out. He's dropped several pounds just by doing that alone. I was wondering if maybe this wouldn't work for you, too. If you preplan your meals for the day, maybe make up several small meals to bring into work with you, including several premeasured snacks of chocolate and gummies, if that wouldn't help you to regain control during your stressful day. If you decide to try it, let me know if it works. :-) Meg > > It has been very quiet! I have an excuse of sorts. Guest guest
Yep, I saw this happening to me, too. I'm almost to the two year mark myself. I was never very big on protein drinks up to this point, getting most of my protein from my food and leaving my body to leach the rest of it's nutrition needs from my fat stores. Then I noticed that I was grazing heavily during the day and I was looking for more food even though I'd just had something. And not only had I stopped losing weight and been on a plateau for several months, my weight had started going up (how could it not with all the calories I was feeding it?) So I came to the conclusion that now that my fat stores are so greatly reduced, my body could no longer supply it's needs from my butt and waistline and was telling me to eat because it needed a better source of nutrients. The problem was that for me to give it the nutrients it needed, I had to graze constantly, which gave it WAY too many calories. So I changed things up. I cut out a lot of extra, unnecessary calories by adding in protein drinks. I replaced breakfast and an afternoon/evening snack with a protein drink, I make sure that one of my meals everyday is a salad (with meat, seeds, cheese, etc) and then I only eat one " real " meal, with starch, veggie, meat, a day. Doing this has really put me back on track. Not only did I lose the weight I had been regaining, but my weightloss began again and I've gone down three more pant sizes. Hope that helps you. Guest guest
I know. I thought it was just me not getting the posts. At least they have started again. My weight is a constant struggle. I have maintained a 100 lb. weightloss which I am very grateful for. It still seems like a struggle to maintain that and I have gone from a size 18 back up to 22. Big bummer. I graze all day long. I work 15 hour days and have breakfast, lunch and dinner at work. Lots of stress and eating just to keep myself awake all day so I can perform. My doc took me off all the megadoses of vitamins because she said my Vitamin A level was nearing toxic. I have added a Vitamin B Complex pill since I had to go off my mega doses of multi vitamins. I also was put on a thyroid pill. I thought that it would help me lose, but I have gained!? Yes, it is a lifelong struggle just to maintatin the weight loss I have. It bothers me that I still have to buy plus size clothes after all this time! Re: Where is everybody?? It has been very quiet! I have an excuse of sorts. OK, now it's your turn! Where is everyone and that means you! Marilyn
Guest guest
Pam, My name is Taber. While browsing all of the post on the mgb post ops I came across your post. I,too, love to graze. I previously was a lapband recipient and that is all I did was graze constantly. Although I had to have the band removed I was interested to hear how you deal with your bypass. I am trying to make my 10 contacts. I would greatly appreciate being able to use you. I am caustiously optimistic about this procedure. This is my 3rd attempt within the last 10 yrs at a permanate weight loss solution. I pray this time I will make it. Thanks ________________________________ From: Pam Haase <pam_haase@...> Sent: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 10:33:56 PM Subject: Re: Re: Where is everybody?? I graze too ... all day...I bring three pieces of fruit to work, oatmeal packets, nuts, crackers, cheese, tea, waters, carrots, other cut up veggies. Seriously, every time someone walks in my office I have something I'm putting in my mouth. It works great, I control what I am eating for the day...and its little bits and nibbles instead of meals. When I come home I have whatever my family is eating but I hardly can eat more than what cold fit on my hand. Sometimes later for a snack I have a cup of veggie soup or yogurt. I couldn't be happier and really, I am so skinny! pammie Pam in Plymouth, MI 280/145/ ? pre-op/now/goal? It has been very quiet! I have an excuse of sorts. I write mortgages for a living, something I've done for 20 years, so when rates dipped below 5% in mid-December, I got buried with work! I have been getting to the office around 7:30 or 8 in the morning and not leaving until after 8 at night. Needless to say, I have not been focusing on exercise or nutrition. The rules and regulations and programs for loans change every day, so my stress level has been pretty high. One of my co-workers says you can't be in this business and survive without drinking.. Well, I don't drink, but I have been eating. I can't eat much at a time, but I can " graze " and seem to be doing it constantly! Wouldn't be bad if I grazed on grapes, but I seem to need chocolate (It is one of the major food groups!) and gummy bears. Guest guest
I want to echo what Pam said in her email. Keep healthy snacks available at all times so you won't be tempted to eat chocolate or gummy bears. I have a wonderful take-out restaurant that I found near my house that is known for its rotisserie chicken and ribs. I will go in there, buy a whole chicken cut into quarters and quart containers of side vegetables such as zucchini in a tomato sauce, broccoli and mixed vegetables, mashed squash, corn, or green beans. I will buy three or four containers of vegetables so I always have a choice depending on my mood. I eat this food for breakfast most of the time, bypassing cereal or carbs, and I find that eating this kind of breakfast revs up my metabolism for the day. Sometimes I pack it for lunch to take to the office and sometimes I have it for a quick dinner when I get home after work and don't feel like cooking. I have found this pattern of eating keeps my weight down (I weigh 117, down from 239) and still allows me to have treats pretty much any time I want them. Eating the vegetables and protein for breakfast may not appeal to everyone, but remember that that's the way our ancestors used to eat. Eating cereal is something that came into vogue when Mr. Kellogg did a massive advertising blitz when he first started his company. I encourage you to find good nutritious food that can be kept handy so you aren't tempted to eat junk. By the way, I love my new life as a thin person. The only drawback is my clothing budget. When I was fat I would buy any outfit that fit me and looked reasonably good because I was always afraid it would be a long time before I found another one that fit. Now everything fits and looks good so I have to use self-control or I won't be able to afford myself. I had my MGB in 2002 and have never regretted it.
