Guest guest
Am I being a baby or just having a different reaction than anyone else? Today is my 10th day post op and I feel like crap. My shoulder pain had gotten better and now it hurts a lot again. Also, after eating (still clear liquids by the way), I feel pains in my back and chest...what is wrong with me? I'm starting to doubt my decision to have this surgery. Will this go away or am I doomed for life? I was in so much pain last night...shoulder, chest, back...that even my face hurts...I know that sounds crazy...but it did...am I doing something wrong or will I feel like this everytime I eat for as long as I have the band? I am so frustrated I wish I had never gone through with this, I thought I'd be fine by now but I feel crappy!!!!! I thought maybe I had gas, but I can't even burp...don't know why, I've been good about the liquid diet and haven't cheated, except I have a small cup of skim milk with a bit of coffee in the morning, I also added a few little bits of vegetables to my broth and blended it that way but so little it is still clear. I have lost almost 10 lbs. Are you supposed to drink in small sips and very slowly? I thought I was drinking slowly but maybe not enough? I don't know what to think anymore...I have had two C sections so I am not unfamiliar with surgeries or pain...so why do I feel so bad? Guest guest
, you may just be super restricted. I know there are some bandsters on the list that were very tight from the beginning and didn't need a fill for many months. I am sorry you are in pain still. Did it just start hurting again today? Maybe you over did it? Yes you are supposed to sip very tiny sips. You might try waiting a few minutes between sips. And how much are you getting in with each meal? I know if I drink/eat too much I get a pain in my left side and shoulder. Hang in there. M OH MY GOD...THIS IS NO FUN Am I being a baby or just having a different reaction than anyone else? Guest guest
Rosie, It sounds pretty normal, you are only 10 days out of surgery. Really try to drink slowly and little sips. Try using a straw or a cap/lid off of a bottle, sounds silly but will help you know how little a sip should be. Also, don't forget your liquid Tylenol!!!! Take it every 4-6 hours around the clock, it really did help me. I still use tylenol once in a while for the shoulder pain and I'm 4 months out. It does get better!! really, it becomes less and less, give it time. Be careful with veggies?? Maybe get vegetable flavored broth, if your pain got worse with the veggie broth you made then don't drink it for another week or so. I too had pain in my left jaw/face, it only lasted a few days and never came back, thank God!! You will feel better, soon, day by day it gets better....Take care.Dana -------------- Original message -------------- From: " " <roanch@...> Am I being a baby or just having a different reaction than anyone else? Guest guest
I've been in pain pretty much from the beginning. Also, my back hurts a lot. Eventually it will go away, right? I've been able keep down pretty much anything I eat, no nausea, nothing, just the freaking pain, I also feel very weak. So, basically, if I'm eating too much I might feel it in the shoulder? Is that right? I had not made that connection at all. My husband's chiropractor gave him an ointment for his bad back which seems to help me. Today I had some yogurt for the first time and I felt fine with it going down. I thought the shoulder pain was gas? I'm confused.... >From: " Mills " <tracy@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: RE: OH MY GOD...THIS IS NO FUN >Date: Sat, 20 May 2006 23:41:27 -0500 > >, you may just be super restricted. Guest guest
It is called referred shoulder pain. The way it was explained to me is when I overeat, I expand my pouch, which irritates my diaphragm (as irritates the diaphragm too), which in turn irritates the phrenic nerve which has a pathway to the shoulder. I usually feel the pain under my left breast and shoulder, but sometimes the middle of my back. Defiknition: Referred shoulder pain Unexplained shoulder pain that does not change when you move your neck, shoulder, or arm or that occurs with symptoms elsewhere in your body (such as in your abdomen or chest) may be referred shoulder pain. Referred pain means that a problem exists somewhere else in the body other than where you feel the pain. And this post from OH explains it better (read 4th post down) http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/postdetail/92416.html?vc=0 M OH MY GOD...THIS IS NO FUN > >Am I being a baby or just having a different reaction than anyone >else? Guest guest
Gas also makes the pouch expand and also irritates the diaphragm....this is why Gas X is recommended....it may help. We are working on a document for post op questions and answers to hand out along with the paperwork at the hospital. Drainage, gas, shoulder pain, etc. The most common questions patients usually have....great idea of having it on the database as well. Guest guest
Thanks In re-reading, I can see my typos. I was typing in my car on my lunch break, plus my nails are too long LOL. But yes, I think I will save that OH post on a notepad somewhere so I can refer to it. Guest guest
Nina, I had bad typing going on in my post. Where it says : //The way it was explained to me is when I overeat, I expand my pouch, > which irritates my diaphragm (as irritates the diaphragm too), which > in turn irritates the phrenic nerve which has a pathway to the > shoulder. That was supposed to be (GAS irritates the diaphragm too) LOL.
