That's not enough protein and possibly not enough carbs. What are you adding

into your salad for carbs? what about protein? What do you plan on having

for dinner?

Technically yes, but you could find better source of protein and

carbs. What about adding some hard boiled eggs as protein in addition

to the cheese? How about fruit on the side instead of croutons?

Fruit on the side would definitely work. I thought of the eggs, but

since the food has to sit in my car or in my bag all day I am afraid

to bring eggs, at least until it gets cold. Same for using veggie

lunchmeat - normally I would put slices of soy " turkey " in there but

having it sit worries me.

Can you put it in a cooler? That might work. Anything else I can

think of is meat :( Sorry. Maybe soy nuts but you might really have

to search to find enough protein without a lot of fat.

How about a lil cooler with those blue freezer things in it? It

would be good for the salad and fruit too-keep them all in separate

containers until your ready to put it all together.

, you are

pretty much ahead of most post ops following the post op diet. If you were

following the post op diet, you would only be just now getting off the full

liquid stage and starting to eat “mushy” food which would not be

chicken or fish. So I would say if you were already eating these things, then

salad probably isn’t going to make much of a difference. Salad is 90%

water so as long as you chew it up, I wouldn’t worry. I do worry that you

have been eating solids too early, and I am glad you haven’t experienced

any problems.

Salad Question

I am almost 4 weeks past surgery. Today is our 18th

wedding

anniversary. I have not tried salad yet, wondering if anyone had any

problems with it? We hope to go out for dinner and I will get the

soup and salad bar and eat lightly. Just wondering if anyone ever had

a problem with salad. I would really hate to get sick on our

anniversary. I can eat chicken now, and fish. So, I am thinking I

can handle it. Any suggestions besides chew chew chew???

This could just be me but, I only tried it once, and it was the worst

experience, I had to lay

on the bathroom floor for hours I was in such pain. It could have been something

else but

the lettuce (dark green kinds) was the only new thing I had.

HI

I agree with your comments about eating solid food too soon. I am at the hospital right now awaiting my surgery and last night they told us we would be on liquids for FIVE weeks. Please be careful and don't jump into solids too fast.

Talk to Nina about your diet and re-read the instructions they gave you in the folder.

Everything is great here. is just 2 doors down from me and is across the hall. Carole has already gone up to surgery. We are all very comfortable and just waiting our turn.

We'll be joining all you losers today! YEAH! :-}

Have a great day!

I was devastated when Dr. A. said salad is probably on the "cannot tolerate" list after surgery. I waited quite a while, then tried and was thankfully able to eat salad. After each of my two fills so far, I have avoided salad until things felt comfortable, and I'm still able to eat salad. I'm so grateful because I love salad! I'm told, though, that not all people can tolerate it. Phyllis

I haven't had any difficulties with salad at all- except for the past

week, when I can no longer indulge in my favorite- spinach salad.

Having come to grips with not being able to HAVE the spinach salad, I

now have to find some sort of meaning in this bizarro type world where

fresh spinach can carry disease and is thus a no-no....AND I am upset

about it.

That's just WEIRD :)

But seriously, I eat some sort of a salad every day- with plenty of

chewing. I have my first fill scheduled for the day after tomorrow, so

with the restriction, my tolerance may change, but for now anyway, I go

for it.

I did find a great low-fat low-cal recipe for a chicken salad that I'd

love to recommend- it's fairly high in fiber, and needs LOTS of

chewing, but it's pretty darn tasty.

2 cups of cooked cubed chicken ( I bake the chicken breasts on a baking

sheet with PAM, and sprinkle it with cilantro first)

1 can of drained black beans

1 cup of fresh corn ( I cut it off the cob, when available, otherwise

you can use frozen, just run it under some warm water to defrost it)

a BIG handful of fresh chopped cilantro

4 large stalks of celery, chopped

1/2 large red onion, chopped

Just enough fat-free ranch salad dressing to toss the other ingredients

in

Serve over lettuce with extra sliced cucumbers, carrots, peppers,

celery, or whatever you prefer.....
