Thanks ! For some reason,the media likes simple explanations and

descriptions of HL. As if we don't deserve the time in proper study..

I've read similar kinds of articles regarding blind people. For instance, we

have a " sixth " sense. We have better hearing than sighted people. We tell

our " seeing-eye " dogs to go to Mickey D's and poof! we're there. We count

steps when we walk. We feel people's faces. We use " sticks " instead of white

canes. ( or , can you think of any others? <grin>)

If you're deaf-blind, you're almost always noted as being completely deaf

and blind. Your SSP (service support provider), interpreter or intervenor is

referred to as an aide or " helper. " ASL is confused with Braille. The list

goes on and on...

The media...you gotta love 'em!

Not sure whether you are aware of this but in Australia we only have

the Nucleus System. No choice of any other brand.

" The technological phenomenon that has given Carlene back her

hearing is a Nucleus3System cochlear implant.
