This is great information and even though I've not had this need

yet, you never know when it just might happen. Thanks for sharing.

I'm looking forward to the tips on mappings because no matter how

long we've had a CI..we seem to learn something new that can help

when we thought we knew it all.

It sounds like the support club meeting was a good one.

Hi Alice. It was a good one, and a big turn out also. It also helped that

it was a great day to be outside. Sun shining and warm. Of course we are

expecting rain the next two days......

Alice,

It was a great meeting today, good food, good friends and good

weather!

I've posted the tips on mappings as well as added them to our files.

While this sounds reasonable, I prefer the prevention method. I have

been recommending Dry and Store to as many people who will listen. It

does a significantly better job than conventional drying systems and in

this particular case, would solve the problem over night.

Several hearing aid and CI manufacturers are now providing Dry and Store

If you ever get your processor really, really wet

Hey everyone,

I attended the MI support club potluck today with guest speaker Dr.

Gayle Weddington of Mt Pleasant, Director of Central Michigan university

Audiology clinical service and instruction and we got some wonderful

tips as to when to know it's time for a new mapping as well as tips on

what to do to protect our ci from moisture even complete soaking.

For regular moisture, use of the dri aid pack every night is recommended

which most of us know. Another way is by using a hair dryer on a very

low setting and drying the ci.

Something I didn't know though is that if your ci becomes thoroughly

drenched with water is that you can dip the processor in rubbing

alcohol( at least for the bte). First thing to do is remove the

batteries (wet batteries will begin to leak acid and can cause further

damage) and the head coil cord out of the processor, dip it in the

alcohol as this helps the water evaporate, then use the blow dryer on it

and put it in your dry and store. Hopefully this will dry the processor

sufficiently.... I've dried mine with just the blow dryer before when I

dropped it in the toilet, but didn't know about being able to dunk it in

alcohol at the time. fortunately, there was no permanent damage and I

had it working in about half hours time.

Of course, the best way is to keep your ci away from water at all times,

but.. accidents do happen now and then.

I'll try and post the when to go for mappings tips tomorrow.

Hugs,

Silly MI

Brad,

Yes, prevention is always the best as I mentioned in my post, but on

those rare occasions.. IF something should happen as it did with me,

the information is really good to have, especially if it's a weekend

and one would be stuck without an audie for the entire weekend. I

know about the dry and store as do most of the other ci

users<smile>.. I don't recommend the dunking or blow drying method

for every day use, but rather for those times when the dry aid just

isn't enough or in case of EMERGENCY... because I for one, would NOT

go overnight with a non working processor if I could possibly help

it and I think the majority of the ci users would be in agreement on

this one with me.. If you ever walked in our shoes, I'm sure you

would know exactly what I mean.

Warm regards,

Silly MI
