Guest guest
Hi Crissy, He does finance $3200.00 of the $8200.00 so you have to come up with the $5000.00. This is how I am doing it. I sent in my deposit of $500.00 to hold my surgery date (4/28/06) and when you go there you give him the balance. So that is one reason why I have my surgery date in 2 months. This way I can save up the money. And the good thing about it is once you get approved for surgery there is no credit check or anything like that. It's in house financing. I will tell that when I filled out the initial request for information a gentleman named emailed me and went through the whole process with me. He is absolutely wonderful!! His email address is ruben@.... Get in touch with him and he will help you. I think that Dr. Acevas has surrounded himself with incredible staff! That is my dream too. I just want to finally be happy and I know when I start feeling better about me I will be happy. You can do it even if it takes you 6 months or however long it takes to come up with the $$. Your worth it!!! Talk To You Soon!! Guest guest
Hey Crissy, I just sent you some finance information. Dr Aceves at times can finance $3200 if you can come up with the $5000 down. I hope we can all brainstorm and figure out a way to help you make this a reality. For in house financing the best person to contact would be Nina at nina@... I am praying this all works out for you and you will be banded VERY SOON! cost so does anybody know id the dr. finances patients? and if so how much you need to have. i have been wanting this for a really long time, but i cant seem to get a loan it is hard being a single mom. so if anybody could let me know i would be very thankfull.crissymy dream is to be a loser. i just wonder if i will be able to make it happen

Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, pretty much said it all. I am actually going through the in house financing through Dr. A.and financing $3200.00. I sent in a $500.00 deposit to make a surgery date (4/28) and then when I go I just take a cashiers check for the other $4500.00. was who I was dealing with when I was corresponding back and forth before I set a date and he also told me that I could send in payments or direct deposit payments into their bank. Sometimes that is easier than trying to come up with a large sum of money at once. Also, I did have to schedule my date for a couple months ahead because of the cost. So maybe you could just see if Dr. A. can finance the $3200.00 and then send in the deposit and schedule a date for like 3 months or however long you think it will take you to come up with the balance. Atleast if you did it that way you will know that it is going to happen. It's hard, trust me. I am hating to have to wait for April 28th but I know it's coming!! Guest guest
Very true... the total cost is as quoted and that is in and out the door. The outside cost that is there is airfare to and from San Diego and dinner the night before surgery. Otherwise, everything is included. Guest guest
I've just started researching the cost of the Lap-Band procedure and, like all of you, my insurance won't cover any weight lost procedures or surgery. Going to Mexico may be my only option! But I am concerned about the follow visits and fills, not really wanting to have to go back to Mexico each time, from Florida. I live in Winter Park near Orlando, FL - has anyone found a doctor near central Florida willing to do the fills? Thanks! Guest guest
Pattilyn: You live pretty near B. She and I met as we were both getting a fill together in Mexicali last November. The cost for fills in this area of Florida are around $500. Sometimes that is with fluro/xray and sometimes without. I would NEVER recommend fills without fluro. There have been too many unfortunate experiences to risk damage to your port. I return to Dr. A. because airfare is only about $250. My first fill was an all-in-one trip on a Saturday/Sunday. Flew out really early, got picked up at the SD airport, went to Mexicali, got my fill, saw all the staff, returned to SD and flew home. Total trip time: 27 hours. Would I ever do that again. Not NO, but H E __ ___ NO! The next time I flew out on a Friday nite, spent the night in SD, got a fill on Saturday and planned to fly home on Sunday monring. Due to bad weather, my flight got cancelled and I wound up flying back on Monday. It was a bad winter storm that hit the whole midwest. Don't plan to get any more winter fills. Too inconvenient. The point of all this is that Dr. A will provide this service at no fee. There is a minor hospital cost ($75-$80). Added all together, the airfare, hospital cost and a hotel room for a night, is still under $500. You do that maybe 2 to 3 times in a year with the same doc that performed your surgery. There is no risk to your band or port. You feel like its old home week visiting everyone. It is well worth it to travel back to Mexicali. I wish you the very best of luck in your journey. It will all be worth it. Don't spend a lot of time researching, saving and getting the procedure done by the best to risk it with an unknown, inexperienced "rent a doc" at a fill center with minimal training and little experience in performing fills. Most insurance co will pay for the bloodwork and respiratory tests / xrays. Mine did. My insurance didn't pay a dime for my surgery, consultation, etc and my total cost was $15,500 which includes appointments for a year post op and free fills for a year. When you compare that to the complications of obtaining a fill dr and outrageous fees you sometimes have to pay to even get a Dr to see you in the States cause you got it done in Mexico, well it can amount to roughly the same. Trust me, I considered getting Dr A to do mine but the ongoing maintenance, used vacation time and airfare would have put me almost in the same boat financially. Guest guest
No, Steve is correct. I had Dr. A do my band and that was $7800. Then for fills there is a Nurse Practitioner here that charges $100. If I have problems and want to see a bariatric surgeon in my area that is $500, assuming I would not want to go back to Dr. Aceves. I would go back to Dr. A but point being, the docs about 10 miles away from me would charge me $500 for an initial consultation. If it was a serious complication my insurance would cover it as they are required to by law. That is one whole heck of a lot less than what you are paying. I could continue going to the NP but I prefer Drs. Aceves & Campos for personal reasons. So I choose to drive there and fills are free for life. How much will your fills be after your one year is up? Your costs are about double of what mine are and I had the best surgeon possible. Guest guest
Sorry, I have to agree with Steve. My insurance company would pay for Labs and an EKG but that was about it...A visit to a nutritionist was out of my pocket as was an appointment with a physiologist. As far as fills, Dr. A does his fills every day...One Saturday a month is designated for Ernesto to drive and return to the airport that same day, so no lost vacation time or sick time...If you have to work on a Saturday, you can still get the same accommodation if you are a little flexible and can arrange to come when the van is not packed. Since I come so far, it is better for me to stay overnight. Airfare is also not a problem, summer is usually more costly then during the rest of the year but most of my flights were pretty inexpensive (and I am coming from Florida.) I would suggest that who ever is trying to make this decision, needs to go to their doctor and or insurance company with a list of questions of what is and what is not covered, and see what the actual costs are. The person that stated that the surgery was $15,500 for everything was very unusual. I would love to know where he or she had theirs done. I have been back to Dr. A a few times for fills and I still feel that I am way ahead $$$ wise by going to Mexicali rather then having it done in my area. It is also so very reassuring to know that you have been taken care of by someone who has done thousands of these surgeries and is so well thought of by his peers. You will also be taken care of by the best, most caring staff that you will ever meet. Just do your homework before you make a final decision. Still trying to decide if I want to be a " bandster " , let alone where to have the procedure done. I've just been viewing the posts for a few days now and have only been seriously concerning this for a few weeks - still a lot of snooping to be done. I only personally know 2 ladies who have had the gastric-bypass, none who have had the lap-band. Thanks! Pattilyn >From: " B. Guest guest
thanks Cyrena! It helps to know that someone else has had the same type of concern. I too wanted more than .3 cc, but Dr.Campos refused. I just don't want to gain my weight back. I have gained some back over the last 3 months. It is a very scary thing. Just having to use more self control and will power. AND... we know that has never worked or I wouldn't have needed the band to begin with! Try not to relate the amt of restriction you have with the amt of the fill. Gaby told me when I had to get a total unfill to not plan on getting back to that original fill amt. She said, it just isn't how the band works. I had a total of 1.6cc in my band for 90 lbs of my weight loss, a year and 3 months. Then I had .3 put in and it was too much. I had a total unfill, healed my body. Then when I went back to get a "small" fill, the Dr. said I should just have .5 put in, I pushed her to put in 1cc, it was too much AGAIN. I went back and had .4cc TAKEN out. So currently I have .6 cc in my band and it is perfect. I can't imagine ever getting back to 1.9 CC UGH!!!! So try to just listen to your body and let the number of cc's get out of your head. But the field trip was fun! Meeting you was the hilight of my trip. My mom & I still talk about you. You have been great - sharing all of your information with so many of us. I hope I can get this band thing worked out and get back to losing. Right now I have .3 cc. When they unfilled me I was at 2.3 cc. ..3cc is way less than I started with. They filled me to 1cc at surgery time. Still having trouble with eating too fast / too big of bites , but I'm working on it! I had lost a total of about 70 pounds. I've gained 15 back. So... I'm back to protein shakes and making sure I get my vitamins in each day. It's just really hard w/out the restriction! Guest guest
You are so lucky. I can't even get a doctor to talk to me here. They refuse to see anyone that has a band from Mexico. They say their malpractice insurance will not allow it. I even called and just asked for a swallor test under flouro when I was having problems. They wouldn't even do that. Guest guest
I know what you're saying is true, but I just don't understand how docs can get away with this kind of policy. We have hundreds of thousands of immigrants from around the world, with various surgical procedures having been performed on them in other countries. Are they having trouble finding doctors to treat them? Are patients who move across the U.S. having problems finding docs to treat any complications that happen from treatment obtained elsewhere in the U.S.? NO! That's just crazy! People change doctors all the time. I think this "Can't treat patients who had surgery in Mexico" line is punishment for going outside the country for what they consider an elective surgery. It's crazy, and makes absolutely no sense to me. I can think of no other procedure where a doc turns away a patient who needs their services. What happens if your Mexican surgeon is dead, or somehow incompacitated and no longer performs surgery? It is just not reasonable to put these kinds of restrictions on patients. Worse yet, what if your original surgeon was incompetent? Would an ethical doctor really insist that a patient return to that doctor's care? I would report any doctor who refused to see me on those grounds to every board he was certified with, and possibly even file suit for refusal of care. It might not do any good, but I'd do it anyway. There are tons of implanted devices that need follow-up care - pace makers, artificial joints, IUDs, etc., etc. It would never occur to me in a million years that I would, for the rest of my life, be forced to see that original surgeon who implanted the device for any follow-up care or resolution of problems. This position that many US docs have taken regarding lapband follow-up is outrageous. Guest guest
I found someone in Mississippi, that is about an hour from Slidell, LA. They refuse to see anyone that has a band from Mexico. They say their malpractice insurance will not allow it. I even called and just asked for a swallor test under flouro when I was having problems. They wouldn't even do that. If anyone knows someone in Arkansas, Louisiana, or Texas that will see Mexico band patients please let me know. But I went to see my primary doctor and he gave me a referral and now I only pay with my insurance my co-pay of $30 for fills. So I don't have to travel back to mexico for any fills. Maybe that could be something you ladies might want to try. Talk with your primary and if you have a history of being overweight and it's been documented by your doctor, you insurance will pay for your fills. They do for me.....
