Guest guest
Well, I had my third mapping today and it didn't go as well as I'd hoped. The mapping is okay... I don't think it's a " bad " map. I just am not understanding speech as well as I thought. We went into the booth today and did the pure tone tests and then the sentences. I did well on the tones... 20 to 40 db across the board. But the sentences just didn't come through. As well as I've been doing on the talking books and such, I was hoping I'd nail at least a few of the sentences, but I think I maybe got one right, with fragments on the others. I guess it's a big step from understanding the gist of a paragraph from a book (after hours of listening to the narrator's voice) and understanding random unrelated and somewhat odd sentences (who dreams up those things anyway?? They remind me of phrases from my Highschool German Conversation book: " I like lemonade but not football " ). Cris (my audi) kept telling me not to be discouraged. I guess I'm doing well for someone with my history after just a month with the implant. Still, I'm a bit blue. I'm not giving up, though. I came home and consoled myself with an ice cream bar, then started listening to books again. Maybe I need to see if Audible has a Highschool German Conversation phrase book on tape. :-) Elizbeth Implanted: 8/12/04 Activated: 8/24/
Guest guest
, Did Cris do the booth testing after the new map? I find that I always have a problem if I go into the booth after being mapped. Keep in mind that what you are experiencing in every day life is what is most important - not the booth. Guest guest
Hi Alice, Yes, we did the booth after the map. I may ask her to do the booth before the next map, just to see how I do. I know that the booth is not as important as real life. I've been thinking about the incredible things that I've heard in the last month (like hearing my sister say " I love you " on the phone the other day). It's just that after 40 years of " flunking " hearing tests, I really wanted to pass one with flying colors. What can I say? I'm a teacher. I have this thing about grades... :-) PS -- I was going to email you about the Captel, but I mentioned it to Cris and she helped me get set up with the folks to get the training and such. YAY!!! > , > > Did Cris do the booth testing after the new map? I find that I always have a problem if I go into the booth after being mapped. Guest guest
, I have to add my two cents worth. The last time Lexy had a hearing test in the booth, I stayed in the room. I could tell the audie's voice was harder for Lexy to understand than mine. After she got through, I asked if I could read the words and sentences and see if that made a difference in her score. It did. With the audi Lexy understood none of the words/sentences - only heard sounds. With me reading, she went up to 8%. Not a great rating, but definitely there is some hope in it. And it proves there is a good bit of variance in those tests. > Hi Alice, > > Yes, we did the booth after the map. I may ask her to do the booth > before the next map, just to see how I do.
