Guest guest
I never thought of " guilt trips " .... never even tried this on my mom, EVER! we're also trying to find a way to pay for all this *if* i am a candidate too.... yeah.... hmmm Thanks! CD Meggers From: M Jansen <nucleus24@...> Reply- Subject: Meghan Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 20:36:40 -0400 Hi Meghan, You might point out to Mom that it's better to have the surgery done while you are still under your parents' hospitalization, and does SHE want to be responsible for your being deaf and unable to afford the CI down the road. Does SHE want to be responsible for your having low paying jobs because you can't compete with the hearing world. Income among deaf people is notoriously low compared to hearing folks with the same education. So I'd try the guilt trip if I were you. She needs to go along for the evaluation and can address her question to the Dr. who does the evaluation and the audiologist as well. Once she gets you the appointment, the audiologist can give you information that she needs. It really is not brain surgery, it's 90 mins to 3 hours, and done on an outpatient basis for the most part. Does SHE want to be responsible for NOT improving your life. Mothers LOVE guilt trips!! Good luck, Nucleus Volunteer Hey guys... do you have any suggestions of how I could... sorta NUDGE my mom to call the Rocky Mountain CI Center to set up an evaluation appointment and get a move on with the whole CI process? Or at least set up an appointment? She doesn't like the idea of anyone *going into my ear to put wires and whatnot into the ear/head or whatever* and that sort of thing. She's had ear surgery herself a few years ago, but it's nothing like a CI surgery I'm sure. Any suggestions or advice would be GREAT as I really would like to get going with the whole thing. Or at least get the evaluation over with. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
oh really? haha I'll talk to my mom again like tomorrow (after all it is 11:07 PM and Mom's in bed by now) about calling Rocky Mountain and setting up an appointment. I want to at least do the evaluation and find out if I'm a candidate or not. Then we can go from there when we're ready or whatever.. or once we figure out what to do about paying for everything.... Hopefully the people down at Rocky Mountain will give us some suggestions of what to do about that. Guest guest
Meghan, Good luck on your research for your report on cochlear implants. If you go to the web and type in, ''cochlear implant''....no less than 500 sites will come up for you to research. Many of them are personal experiences that have been shared with others. Hope this helps in your research on doing implants. It will take some time to sort through all the information, but will be worthwhile as you do your report for school.
