Hello All: I have had some great feed back from a lot of people and I

appreciate and thank everyone for it. I have talked to Nina and am

approved for surgery. I want to schedule as soon as possable but my

wife is nervous about the surgery in Mexico. She is worried about

aftercare and what if something goes wrong during the surgery. I have

no fear and know that this surgery will be an awsome tool in this

exhausting fight. But I need as much help as I can get to ease my

wifes fears. I thank everyone that responds in advance. I hope to

sit down with my wife tomorrow night and read about all the awsome

experiences everyone has had.

Thanks

Ken

Ken, It is laproscopic! 4 tiny and 1 slightly larger incision. There is no need for medical aftercare. In 10 days you pull the 4 stitch sites and on day 15 you do the large one. Some people have discharge, I didn't. Just follow the diet!!! Drink slowly! I have had atleast 10 different surgeries and this was the easy one!!! And I am OLD! --- Hello, My names Vickie, I to had no fear of going to Mexico altho

my family went nuts when I asked their opinions. After showing them

the web site and information from Dr they agreed if I took a real

friend with me to stand up for me if I couldent. Well everything you

see and read about the Dr. and hospital are true. The staff are the

kindest people I ever met. Its clean and well mantained. Keep in mind

it is a poorer country in that it seems like a little country

hospital. You are givin alot of information and then your kinda on

your own to figure it all out. If your wondering if its hard to be on

a liquid diet, you bet!! I was banded 5/12/06 Im down 10 pounds. What

Ive leared is the surgery is to place the tool. the fills will stop

the food. I take a teaspoon of metimusil a day to bind all this

liquid. Its resonable to take a week off from work. Im sore, tired

and I have food withdraws. Thats a lot to deal with over night. I

have no regrets at all. I finally can say today Im not gaining

weight, and proble will not gain back the 130 pounds I hope to lose.

I have hope where I had givin up before due to so many failers.

Theres alot to be said for hope. I hope others with more time contact

you too thats where I gain insight and confidence.

Thank you Vickie for your message of hope. With out even realizing it I'm back in that dark pit that says "your hopeless and will never be at a good weight again". I hate that and reading a wonderful message like yours brings be back into clear thought again. I have not had my band as yet....but hope to in Sept. I like that the women and men in this group are very truthful about their surgery and how their lives are now, better or worst, because of their decision. Until later....Lexi

Hi Ken, I was banded by Dr. Acevas on April 20th, 2006 and I understand how your wife is feeling. I too was very nervous about going to Mexico. Originally my Husband was supposed to go with me but he was not too fond of going to Mexico. Well I decided to move my date up and go alone. And I did. From the moment Ernesto picked me up from the Amtrack station and took me to the Hospital I was well taken care of and all my worries vanished. The bedside manner far outweighs the states. The cleanlinest in the Hospital is unbelievable. I am going back on June 10th for my 1st fill and am looking forward to it. You will be in the best care possible. Good Luck to you on your journey!! Ken & Wife, All your fears will be washed away once you see the hospital and meet Dr.A. I am 4months out from surgery, no complications what so ever, had all the expected shoulder pain, gas ect. but nothing I couldn't handle. I have a fill Dr. in my area that also has the Band herself and she was impressed with Dr.A's work and can easily locate my port. I am down nearly 40lbs, over 40 inches and am very happy with my band and would go to mexico again tomorrow for any surgery if I needed one.It takes some getting used to but I would say I've done pretty well as have the other bandsters on this site. My husband was really flipping out when I first brought up Mexico, but after reviewing the info with me, and taking into account that I was a nurse and my friend that also was banded was a nurse, (and spoke spanish) He knew we were capable of making this decision and felt ok with it in time.Nina called both our husbands right after surgery which really relieved their concerns. It is an outpatient proceedure here in the US. In Mexico they keep you 2 days, Just incase, and the care was excellent!! The hospital is also fully equiped, ER,Cardiac,Lab, EVERYTHING you would find here in the US, AND.....A DOCTOR WITH MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE DOING LAPROSCOPIC SURGERIES LIKE THE BAND.The Dr's here in the states only have been doing bands for 2yrs.and few are even trained to do it. It was the best decision I've made, its changed my life for the better and can change both of your lives for the better too!!!! All the best to you both..Dana
