I WAS BANDED 2/18/06. YES, I WAS IN THE STORE WHEN SUDDENLY I HAD TO PUCKER MY BUTT CHEEKS AND WADDLE OUT LIKE A PENGUIN. IMODIUM IS OKAY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. THE PAIN WILL MOST LIKELY STOP WITHIN ANOTHER WEEK.

HANG IN THERE! YOU ARE DOING FINE!

Group:

My name is Craig Carothers. I was banded 1 week ago today on

Mar 9th. I am Male, and therefore forgetful, refuse to ask for

directions and damn well won't follow them if you give them to

me,stubborn, and did I mention forgetful?

Upon arriving in San Diego I discovered that I had left the

Cashiers Check at home. Upon arriving back home I discovered that I

had left the X-Rays in San Diego. Get the picture?

I had a terrible trip leaving Mexico. The roads were closed due

to snow and when we finally got out it took 8 hrs to get to SD. I

missed my plane and was a day late getting home.

I had planned on going alone but was pleasntly surprised when my

brother and an old college friend of mine showed up and stayed 2

days. I am amazed at the size of my peronal support group. It helps.

I speak Spanish so that was not an issue. In fact it was kind of fun

in that regard because I haven't been in Mexico since 1972, and then

for only a few days on my way down to Costa Rica.

I build, repair and curse computers for a living. I am also the

Webmaster for numerous websites including some Spanish sites in

Latin America.

Here is why I am posting. No one, not even the Dr, can feel

what it is like to be banded except for those that have been banded.

While it is a unique journey for each of us there are still quite a

few things in common.

Being male, as mentioned above I woud read and foget the simple

eating instructions for post surgery. For about 3 days I took in

less than 300 calories a day and not much water. I am now surrounded

by water, Gatorade, fruit juices and broth, in case I forget again.

Here is my question :-) I have had a small " stomach ache " since

surgery. It got pretty bad and I figured out that there may be some

reflux invloved. I took Pepsid and that part of it has been gone. I

still, however have a constant ache,it seems to get a little worse

after I drink something. It may just be reflected pain from the

port. Did any of you have a similar stomach ache and when did it

finally go away? I also seem to have a small problem with the

dreaded diaharea and some leakage at inoportune times. Anybody else

have this problem? Appreciate any feedback. I will try to remain an

active member of this group but the number of posts daily is almost

overwhelming, considering I live in cyberspace, and I am afraid the

estrogen levels here may be dangerous :-)

I also very much want to thank the thoughtful people in this

group that have posted their photos. I never even thought about

taking my camera and so have no pictures of my own to show my wife.

There are enough generic photos posted that I can make an album for

myself to remember. Thanks again.

Hi Craig

You sound like a great guy! Your wife is lucky to have a husband

who can admit to such things!

The only stomach ache I have had is from constant hunger, or rather

starvation. Maybe if I did have a stomach ache, I wouldn't have any

appetite. Unfortunately, there has been no appetite change since my

surgery.

I did, however, have some diarrhea. Take some immodium for it. I

just cut up a pill in 3 pieces and took that. That cured it and I

haven't had it since.

I'm sorry your trip home was problematic. And I hope you are doing

well now! How are you doing with the all-liquid-I-wanna-kill-

someone- diet? LOL Can you all tell I'm having problems with

it......

Good luck!

Hi Craig,

Congrats on joining the losing side! About that

stomach ache.... I'm not sure it is the same, but when

I would go to bed, I could feel the band move

everytime I did. It also would hurt clear to my back

when I would drink or eat. I think it was because my

stomach was very swollen and I was very restricted.

Do not fear, once the swelling went down (for me about

5-6 weeks but for most 3-4 weeks)the pain went away

and I can no longer feel my band when I move around in

bed! Oh, and the restriction went away too. Good

luck on these first few weeks and have a wonderful

weight loss journey.

Hi Craig,

My name is Sonya, I really got a kick out of what you had to say, I am

very forgetful, too. I am about 1 1/2 weeks ahead of you, I got banded

on 02/27. I did not experience too much stomach pain, apart from a

little bit of gas and the constant growling, but I know exactly what

you are talking about with the " leakage " , in this group they have a

term called PBing (productive burping) in the 2nd week of

my " concentration camp diet " I came up with a new term " PFing " , I wont

get too graphic, but I'll just say, I know what you are going through

with that. I found that once I started on the full liquids that

problem went away, and you are almost to that stage. Dont worry too

much about all us girls, we dont bite (too hard). Keep up the good

work.

Craig, I had reflux and tummy aches for about 10 days after surgery. I took the chewable maalox and gas X but found out the hard way that they mix with your syliva and make a paste that clogs your stoma. Stick to the juice, broth and jello for the first couple of weeks. Don't make the mistake that I did and try to eat something else to soon. The reflux is from trying to eat to much to soon. At least it was in my case. Try the liquid antiacids. Becky DOB 1/26/2006 260/244/150ccar50 <ccarothers@...> wrote: Group: My name is Craig Carothers. I was banded 1 week ago today on Mar 9th. Hello fellow computer geek! Nice to see a fellow techy in the group. The others have had some good suggestions for the tummy ache. I think you are right, it could be pain from the port as well. Yes, take Imodium for the diarrhea and keep drinking the broths and clear liquid protein.

Sorry to hear about the terrible trip back to SD! Snow? WOW! Hey, I would love to know which websites you are webmaster for.

Hi Craig,

My name is and i wanted to greet you at the

airport the day you arrived i was leaving. I was

banded on March 6th and it has been a wonderful

experience. I have since lost about 26 pounds since my

surgery. I have had a case of diarrhea but since all

that is going in is liguid i assume thats whats going

to come out.

Now i have to admit i am getting hungry now for the

last couple of days, and have cheated eating about 8

french fries , it didnt bother my stomach at all but i

did feel it and i was statisfied with the little i

ate. I am not telling you to eat french fries at all,

just needed something salty. I cant eat the chicken

broth anymore. ANy ideas on other food?

I sometimes have bad luck like what you described, and

i cant truly understand it.

I wish you the best of luck if you need anything look

me up, we are all here to support each other..

SIncerely,

26 pounds??? That is super!!!! I’ve

lost 17. When I want something salty, I have been sucking on pretzels and then

when the salt is gone I throw the rest away – also I have been sucking on

jerky to just get the flavor. Any ideas on what to drink the 2nd two

weeks? I am excited to go off the broth but not sure what is allowed on this

next stage or rather what is really good!!!

Craig:

I am SO proud of your hard work on this. Your making it sound like

a breeze for me when I go in to have it done in May. It's wonderful

to hear your joy.

Keep up the great work!!

Nydia,

Congratulations on your surgery date! You must live in Mexico? As for me, the

post op

period has been HELL. No pain or anything, just with the diet. It has been

awful for me,

while for some others, it's been easy. I don't get it, but that's how its been.

Good luck!
