Guest guest
, Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one who didn't follow the strict diet for the whole six weeks, however, I am at 5 1/2 weeks, and eating solids, still can hurt sometimes so I am surprised, with all the restriction you had at first that you can eat that much. I had my band xrayed the first time I had a heartburn like experience from eating something I wasn't suppose to. However, I don't beleive I have lost any weight yet, except maybe the first initial ten lbs, if I haven't gained that back I will be lucky, I hope things change when i get my fill next Monday, I haven't a clue what it will be like, and I feel like a failure and just hope and pray I haven't wasted 8 grand. Watch out, cause if Nina reads this and she will, she will definately get on to you about not following the Doc's orders. Tracie B. in Texas From not keeping anyting down to keeping everything down Hi Everyone, I have really blown it this weekend. I went from not being able to keep water down to keeping everything at the casino buffet down! HELP I feel so fat! I'm not even supposed to be on solid foods yet but they sure go down with no problem. I even find I can eat more then I thought I would be able to. Is this becase I need a fill? Is it normal to be able to consume an entire burrito in 1 sitting? anyway, I am trying to moderate the food I eat today any suggestions??? I feel really, really bad about eating so much this weekend. in TX 280/256/140 (I probably gained the weight I lost back)
Guest guest
!! I just got around to reading my mail. I know you should be ready to get a butt kicking (wink) from Nina but I thought I would tell you that we all struggle through the post op diet phase. I went to carnation instant breakfast 2 or 3 days before I was supposed to because I needed the protein. But you just had surgery what....14 days ago? You are only 2 weeks post op and should just now be starting full liquids like carnation instant breakfast. When did you go from barely getting water down to being wide open? And when did you first try solids? Most people experience fear of eating anything after surgery but then once you do eat something and you see it goes down, it is very hard to go back. Please please remember you are healing. The inside of your stomach has just taken a major beating and you need to stay on the post op diet as best as you can. Remember you didn't go through all of this just to have band failure. 6 weeks is not all that long when you look at the big picture. Consider this some tough love girl because we have all been there, cheated a little, but now that you have, you need to go back to liquids and try to stick to it ok? We are all gonna be here to support you. You will not feel good restriction until you have a fill, although I am surprised you aren't feeling any since you were so tight after surgery. Guest guest
Hi, Tracie B. I'm at 6-1/2 months out and I just want to relate my recent experience. I've had 2 fills, the last one on June 1. It was a good one (for a total of 3.0cc) and I was doing fine; restriction, but no PB problems, etc. But then my weight loss really stalled for a few weeks and I was feeling like I could eat anything, particularly in the evening (which is pretty common). Anyway, a few days ago my restriction just suddenly returned and I've been pretty tight since Friday. I have no idea why the change. I had my first PB Sunday night; I had a few bites of cold leftover salmon but I ate too fast (as I was hurrying out the door to get to a church picnic). By the time we arrived at the picnic I was in misery and sliming. Finally I had to stick my finger down my throat to bring back up the salmon that was stuck. (Sorry, if this is gross.) It worked and I felt fine immediately. Since then I've been going easy, eating (nibbling)soft, warm foods, soups, etc. Anyway, I think and HOPE that this is going to get my weight loss going again. About my plateau: I should report, in an effort at full honest disclosure, that I have been practically addicted to peanut butter milkshakes at DQ and was drinking 1-2 a week for the past several weeks. They are so yummy and go down so EASY! But yesterday I went to DQ's website to see if I could find out how many calories and (unfortunately) I got the awful truth: 780 calories for a medium chocolate shake! Wow, how stupid am I? I was ingesting maybe 800-1000 calories every time I indulged, without much thought about it. So I blame myself, not my band for the plateau. Still, I didn't gain anything during this time and without the band, we all know what would have happened. Just my thoughts for the day. Guest guest
Jackie, thanks for all the info, I get my fill next week, and I can't wait, my husband is starting to get concerned about me not loosing weight and us spending so much money, I keep telling myself and him that I'm still in the healing phase and not suppose to worry about the weight loss, but it is getting somewhat depressing at this point, it seems at this stage I am consuming so many carbs, mash potatoes, corn, cream soups, noodles, pudding, ice cream, etc. I thought by going back to work at my second job because I am on my feet and walking 5 to 6 hours nonstop that extra excersise would of kicked in some weight loss, but even though I haven't gotten on a scale I can tell I haven't lost anything. Anyways, thanks so much for sharing your story makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one struggleing. , I will sure let ya'll know when I start having some success. Tracie B. Guest guest
NANCY, You still haven't replied as to how you went from not getting liquids down to eating at that buffet, are you doing ok, did it hurt at all when you ate the burrito, and are you back to the liquid phase. let us know. Guest guest
Well it started with mashed potatoes at the buffet and then I thought I wonder if I can get the steamed crab down. It just progressed from there to - cake looks easy to get down....ect....after all, it was a buffet and what better place to see what you can get down. I have not completely gone back to liquids but I am trying not to eat anything not mushy. It is difficult and I think I may have lost a couple of pounds (despite my eating)but I'm not sure. I don't trust my scale so I will wait another day before I officially say I'm loosing more weight. I am afraid if I keep eating, I won't lose anymore weight. I am scheduled for a fill Aug 16. I scheduled it before my surgery. in TX 280/256/
Guest guest
August 16, isn't that only less than 4 weeks after your surgery, I think you are suppose to wait until 6 weeks, at least that is what I have been stuggling with, waiting my 6 weeks with NONONO RESTRICTION, but that is awesome if you have been loosing and eating, cause I don't think I have. I just can't beleive everything went down so easily, no pain at all. hmmmm. anyways try taking it easy like mY boss said, who is a lawyer and has a couple of lawsuits where people had surgery and didn't follow the rules, He told me if you eat to soon while your body is healing it could cause damage inside like a hernia or something worse, band slippage, I think like Nina said, to me , when I started to soon, the band is only held together with a stitch or two, and putting stress on it to soon with solid food could cause it to slip, you have to build up scar tissue and that takes at least 6 weeks, you might want to change your apptl GOOD LUCK TRACIE B. in texas Re: From not keeping anyting down to keeping everything down Well it started with mashed potatoes at the buffet and then I thought I wonder if I can get the steamed crab down. Guest guest
Tracie, I bet everyone goes through this at one point right after surgery and before a fill. Curtis said the same thing “All that money waisted” blah blah. I just kept ignoring him because I knew that I wasn’t going to see results until I had a fill. I actually did lose a good amount of weight in the beginning but you know guys, they ….well never mind LOL. Anyway, it is true. Any weight loss now is bonus. Be prepared to gain some weight back during this time and just know that things won’t start for you until your fill. (at least for most of us-if you are one of the lucky ones who have restriction without one, congrats!! Lol) In Texas 3/1/05 280/211/160 http://www.tracyslapband.com From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of tkbartek@...
