Guest guest
Son of a Gun. We just might meet after all!! I will be arriving on Friday April 21. You won't be leaving until the 22nd will you? I'll be a little indisposed on the 22nd - but I'm not losing a gall bladder, I'm gaining a band - huh?? :>) I MUST look for you when I get to the hospital for my tests on Friday. You can meet my Mommy, too. She's a terrific lady. Loaded with her own health problems (breast cancer diagnosed and mastectomy in Oct!), taking care of my Pop, but she is dying to take care of me! If I had known we were moving the Pediatric med staff meeting to this week, I would have taken Thursday off next week to travel and schedule for 21st. We'd cross paths for sure, then! Best of luck to you, Kiddo!!! Phyllis My Surgery Date!! HELLO ALL,GUESS WHAT?? I have changed my date again!!! WOOHOO!!! MY NEW BANDING DATE IS SCHEDULED FOR THE 20TH!!! YIPPEE!!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Ginger!! Oh I am so glad that your going to be there too! Do you no of anyone else being banded at this time?? I am feeling lots of anxiety right now. I think its because I have decided to do it alone. I am going to drive to the San Diego Airport from Los Angeles area and I am a creature of habit and this is totally out of my realm! I am also checking on some shuttle services to pick me up at home and take me to San Diego and then bring me back. We'll see. My BmI last time I checked I think was like 44!! YIKES!!! I feel absolutely lousy right now!! Not sick, just sick of being fat! Well I cant wait to meet you. Tammy I.

Guest guest
Oh Phyllis, Your Mom is a trooper!! God Bless Her!! Were they able to get all the cancer? I think you said she had a mastectomy which should take care of it but had it spread to any other areas? Thats great that she is coming with you. I wish that I had a mom like that or just had a mom who cared!! Tammy I.

Guest guest
Tammy, how about Amtrak? Does it run from where you live or close by? I'm sure it goes to San Diego. Or even a bus. Anything beats driving, especially if it's going to be a long drive and you don't know your way around. Less anxiety. PD Re: My Surgery Date!! Hi Phyllis!! I hope we will get to meet!!! Guest guest
The surgeon told all of us the options and Mom asked us all for our opinion. By having a mastectomy, she didn't have to worry about the surgeon not getting enough of the lump and leaving cancer cells behind. What was so hard was waiting, and waiting....to get the pathology results on the lymph nodes. Thank God they were clear. Mom takes one of the post-breast cancer medicines that is effective in breast cancers that are "estrogen receptor" types and actually give women better results (prevention of further breast cancer) than chemotherapy. My primary doc told me she is at much less risk for recurrence because she didn't get it until she was older and post menopause. The other positive about that is my risk is no higher than anyone else. If Mom had been younger, like 40 or so, then they'd be watching me closely all these years. Anyway, we all cried when we got the news that the nodes were negative. The oncologist is a doll. She really likes him. I used to be an oncology nurse and those doctors are amazing. Guest guest
That is wonderful Phyllis!! My Dad has been (believe or not) battling cancer since he was 18. At 18 he had Hodgkins Disease, and in between then to now he has other various ailments but recently in the last 2 years he had prostate cancer. Hes a trooper, although I think at times he would rather not fight the constant battle of always worrying if its going to come back. I am glad your Mom is doing well!! Tammy I. Guest guest
OMG!! I think you have been reading my mind Phyllis!! I just was online checking out the train schedule and just got done emailing Nina to find out some details before I make a reservation. I dont want to drive and if you have ever been to los angeles you would no why!! Way too many people and cars!!!!!! It would take me just as long to drive as it would to take the train and I can relax on the train. Tammy I.
Guest guest
Thanks! And you can tell her yourself. We'll be in San Diego night of the 20th. Plan to hang out in Old Town, then watch Mom eat breakfast, and meet Ernesto at the airport on Friday morning. Then, we're comin' to see - YOU!! PD Re: My Surgery Date!! That is wonderful Phyllis!!
