Guest guest
Hi Debbie; My story is attached. Good Luck Dana Thorneburg, NP [MiniGastricBypass] Need Contacts HI, MY NAME IS DEBBIE KOK, I'M WORKING ON MY PACKET & WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE WHO'S HAD THE SURGERY THAT WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THEIR STORY & BE A CONTACT, ALONG WITH FULL NAME, E MAIL ADDRESS, DATE OF SURGERY, WEIGHT BEFORE & AFTER. THE QUESTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS; WHATDID YOU THINK OF DR. RUTLEDGE? WHAT DID YOU THINK OF HIS STAFF? WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE HOSPITAL? DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS? DID YOU HAVE MUCH PAIN? There is definitely post-op pain, but there are plenty of pain meds in the hospital and the pain is relatively short-lived. WHEN DID YOU GO BACK TO WORK? Surgery on Friday, worked the next Monday HOW MUCH WEIGHT DID YOU LOSE? WOULD YOU DO IT AGAIN? THANKS IN ADVANCE, DEBBIE KOK HAVELOCK, N.C. Guest guest
Does this type of message from a preop make anyone as crazy as it makes me??? I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the preops at clinic on Saturday in Durham and they didn't ask me these types of questions..... I understand that almost everyone wants to know about pain --- because most of us don't " love pain " but ultimately would I endure even a significant amount of pain to be where I am today -- yes! Does it really matter how fast you are back to work --- sort of --- but would I take a month off if needed to be where I am today --- yes! The " how much " and " would you do it again " I think are very valid questions. But, as much as I loved meeting the staff (THEY ARE ALL GREAT!) whether or not I like them really has nothing to do with anything - and I tell the preops that. Yes you have to deal with them on occasion but it didn't impact my decision in any way. Neither did whether or not I personally like Dr. Rutledge (which I do...). My decision (and I believe every preop's decision) should be based more on which type of surgery is right for you, whether surgery at all is right for you, can you live with any possible complications, etc. I get messages several times a week from preops who say simply..... will I tell them my story. My standard answer these days is that I will answer any direct questions you have after you have done your " homework " . If I simply tell them my story they could be going into this life-altering decision blindly - simply fulfilling requirements - and I think I am doing them a disservice by just sending them a blanket note with my story. As much as we complained two years ago about requirements, doing the lengthy informed consent immediately before surgery (which I hear is no longer being required), etc. was a VERY important part of the process for me -- ensuring that I knew EXACTLY what I was doing.... Sorry for being on a soap box ---- apparently I needed to vent..... in GA > > [MiniGastricBypass] Need Contacts > > HI, MY NAME IS _____________ I'M WORKING ON MY PACKET & WOULD > APPRECIATE ANYONE WHO'S HAD THE SURGERY THAT WOULD LIKE TO > SHARE THEIR STORY & BE A CONTACT, ALONG WITH FULL NAME, E > MAIL ADDRESS, DATE OF SURGERY, WEIGHT > BEFORE & AFTER. I got this in the email the other day: how are you doing--- how did you ever do it ----- any side effects fron mini Not even a signature! I worry about pre-ops like this - shows they haven't read a thing. It was good to see you this weekend...I barely sat during the party. -Ginny I.
