Guest guest
....I would use the skeleton mold and would also secure the processor with a wide headband. I know my processor falls off just bending over to pick up something. Can't imagine playing sports without accommodating that processor. Guest guest
This is very good advice, Gayle. Securing the processor is important when you are playing in an active sport. The mic lock should also be considered but I certainly agree with the wide headband. You can still hear very well with the headband on. Guest guest
Mmmmmm...I would think you may want to experiment a little bit and see what works for you. If you play " rough " volleyball...I think I'd elect to go with a hearing aid as your replacement cost for another processor is approx. $6000. Try a walk-around session with the processor. Try jumping with it on and even have someone bump into you just to see if the processor will stay. Remember though, that a blow to the head/processor is going to be risky. You may damage the internal implant or the external processor. You might want to discuss the problem with your surgeon and ask what your limits may be when it comes to sports activities. The decision is yours but you need to know the possible risks involved. Gayle P.S.Don't worry about the hair...the shorn hair will grow back. I also do not know of anyone that needs to thin the hair so that the magnet will stick. Keep your long hair and if there's a problem, there must be another solution than shaving the area. Guest guest
Thank you Alice, I do want to look sharp. I'm laughing. I was worried about looking a bit like a freak. I do hope the hearing aspect gets better I hear it takes a very long time to get use to the new processor. But I wonder if it is something like an annoying hearing aid when you get feedback? I did notice when my audiologist boosted the one that I have left up to the maximum it would go that everything sounds like smashing glass. The only thing that doesn't annoy me with it is my own voice. I hope the processor is going to be different. My audiologist said that when I get turned on after the surgery that I couldn't wear my hearing aid for a month so that my brain would get used to the processor. I do think I would miss hearing on that side of my head. As annoying as the hearing aid is I would rather have than not.
