Guest guest
Hi prettynpink, I was banded on May 26, 2007....I am a very slow loser 15lbs so far. But that is 15lbs I don't have to worry about gaining back with the band. I was like most all of us on the board..self pay. My BMI was 36 and I want to lose 70-80 lbs. It may be slow for me but it's much better then going the other way. It can take time to find the right adjustment your sweet spot, but the help this band offers is worth every penny. I loved Dr. Aceves and his staff. I'm glad I did it. > > I am considering going to Dr Aceves as a self pay patient. Guest guest
Hi, I have a BMI of 35 and I am going to Mexico tomorrow! I am freaking out a little right now. I get my surgery on 9/18. I too need to lose about 65lbs. I am also afraid of not getting the expected results. I am more afraid of feeling deprived all the time(like my friends get to enjoy their dinner while I will be having a couple of bites) I am super scared of getting food stuck every time I eat. I am terrified of a liquid diet for the first four weeks. Hell, I can't even stick to a regular diet for four weeks(maybe the reason I need this band). I don't know, the whole thing is pretty scary and feels like I am about to do something so drastic to lose the weight but, after all my research I have determined that 95% or more people would do it again in a heartbeat and if you can't live with the band for whatever reason, you can simply have it removed. Sounds like pretty good odds!!!!! Missyprettynpinkhn <prettynpinkhn@...> wrote: I am considering going to Dr Aceves as a self pay patient. Guest guest
Missy,These are pretty good odds and I'm so grateful I did this. It is totally normal to be nervous and anxious. All of us had feelings like that, what if I don't succeed, what my friends think I'm a freak, what if, what if. You will do wonderful, you will find the strength for the 4 weeks of liquid, and you will be so happy you did!! Rest, relax and enjoy this awesome ride you are about to start Cyrena

Guest guest
HI there. I will start off by telling you that you " can cheat " the band! Even Dr. Campos in our pre-op class told us this. Because it is really about calories in, calorie output! and you can literally drink yourself into a very high calorie situation. So, with that said. This band is only a tool and how you choose to use that tool is completely up to you! You can choose to allow the band to do its job and eat small amounts of low calorie high impact foods and loose at a healthy rate (of about 2lbs per week on average), or you can eat low impact high calorie foods and you will loose very slowly! I know of many people on this board who are 8 months out and have only lost 20-30 lbs of weight. But I would be willing to bet my bottom dollar that those people are cheating the band. They are not watching what they eat and they are not exercising! Because if you live on 800- 1,000 cals a day and exercise at least 3-5 times a week you will loose! how fast you loose is really up to your body. I noticed when I First got my band the lbs came off pretty fast, but now that I have less to loose they are coming off much slower. But I am probably not as careful as I was at the beginning either. When I set out on this journey I gave myself a goal of 10lbs per month on average and that I wanted my weight off by about 14-18 months. so a year and a half at the latest. and for me it is very important that I come really close to this time frame! Because statistics do say that most people will only loose up to a certain percentage of their desired weight loss. and I dont want to be a statistic! or the average, I want to be a statistic beater!!! :-) The only thing that might change for me is my goal. I want to weigh 160, but if I get to 170 and I feel really comfortable with my body then I will stay there. So, this is my take on the band weight loss situation. :-) Hope this helps you. :-) hugs, dob 10/6/06 (342) 322/228/160 > > I am considering going to Dr Aceves as a self pay patient. Guest guest
Missy, I think everyone is really frightened when they are just about to be banded. But another really great thing about the band is that it helps with the maintenance of the weightloss. most people who have lost the weight will tell you, that is probably when the battle really begins for most people. Because alot of people who dont have that much to loose can do it on their own, but they cant maintain it for any length of time. So, the band will be very helpful for your maintenance too! You will do great and as everyone has told you, DR. A and his staff are fabulous!!! Let us know how you are doing! hugs, > I am considering going to Dr Aceves as a self pay patient. Guest guest
Jodi, I was so glad to read your post. I lost 13 pounds right after surgery and no more since. I thought there was something wrong with my band or I was just a hopeless case! How long since your surgery? I was told no fills for 6-8 weeks. I can't wait. Right now I have no restriction and I'm having a horrible time not eating everything in sight! I have no will power. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Jodi just hang in there! :-) like someone else said " the band isnt trully functional until your first fill " . after your first fill you will get restriction and begin to loose. and if at that point you do not. Kick up your excersise and count those cals!! :-) But I betcha that once you get your fill things will click for you!!! :-) keep us posted on your progress! hugs, ps another helpful tool is to journal your food intake. I know it is a bit annoying to do this. But it helps keep things in perspective. MOst people will say " jee, I dont know why I am not loosing " . then they count what they are eating and drinking and realize it is like 2,000 plus cals a day and then they are like, ohhhhhh. so if once you are filled you still struggle, give yourself some accountability! we all need that sometimes. :-) But hang in there you dont have a fully functioning band yet!!! :-) > > > I am considering going to Dr Aceves as a self pay > > patient.
