Hi Minnie,

Congrats on getting through your surgery. Yes, it is a bit anticlimactic!

But that's a good thing.

I had some numbness in my ear, especially at the top for quite a long

time after the surgery. Even now when I gently touch the top of my ear, the

sensation is not exactly the same as the other ear. Don't worry, you'll be just

fine!!

Hi Minnie,

Sounds like you are coming along just fine and just one thing to

say.. relax!!<smiles> The numbness is normal for many and the time

to recover from that varies with each person it happens to.

I had a bit of numbness in the incision area after my surgery and

also a bit of taste disturbance..kind of a metallic taste, but not

one that stopped me from eating.. Oh no maam.. they haven't

developed anything to stop me from liking my food yet LOL.

I think the metallic taste lasted about 2 months for me and the

numbness was less than a month. give yourself time and if anything

gets really bothersome or you become ill or have a fever don't

hesitate to contact your surgeon.. Is always better to err on the

side of caution.

Just remember, you aren't going it alone and we're always here to

answer questions to the best of our ability.

Hugs and have a great weekend.

Hi Minnie,

I'm so glad the surgery is over for you. That's the next to the best part of

this process. Of course, the very best is hearing.

Yes..it's normal to feel the numbness. That will subside. It's hard to say how

long that will take as everyone is different but keep taking those meds until

you no longer need them. Also.. take it easy. There's no rush to do things

right now except to let yourself heal. March 15th will be a date you will

always remember and it's not far away at all. Do all those things you like to

do while pampering yourself as you wait for the hookup.

Congratuations.

Great your surgery is done Minnie and like the others said yes the

numbness at incision area is perfectly normal. Any surgical scar

will have numbness and sometimes even occasional twinges and funny

feelings. As the healing progresses you may feel other twinges and

tingles and even short brief pain like sensations around the area.

Sometimes a little startling but not long lasting by any means. As

the tissue that was cut during surgery knits back together it can

send these twinges. They may last off and on several weeks but they

will all go away. Of course like said any thing that persits

or really painful and not releived with your pain med and/or plain

tylenol by all means call your center. As a retired nurse I tend

to 'over explain' sometimes but it is these 'little things' that some

times concern us the most. Your on your way gal to hearing and it is

a great and grand experience. Carol in MI activated 1/13/04
