Guest guest
Bloating and abdominal cramps could be caused from the carbonation in pop. The coffee (without Coffee Tamer, I presume) and the pop are no-no's, right? I do drink coffee with the Tamer and one can of Caffeine-Free Diet Pepsi every day or two (I know, shame on me) . I also eat ALOT more than this individual in a day. Cheryl Iowa 9/20/02 225/

Guest guest
folks, no need to jump all over me on this. in 5 years i have been called every name in the book and insulted in every way-- all for trying to get healthy advice online. i dont read the lists much anyway and i would likely miss your post. here goes!! To Dr Rutledge: What is wrong with people??? This is what happens when people squelch those of us they deem " manual thumpers " and " MGB Police " . We are called mean and rude and much much worse! This is EXACTLY why I am not posting much lately. If I am tired of people pretending to want advice then either getting mad or just going ahead and doing as they darn well please-- I bet you must be tired of it, too--- attitudes of " I got my MGB and I will do as I please " are messing with your reputation and that of MGB in general. All because they dont want to be reminded that the rules are in the manual and are meant to be FOLLOWED! Yes it is their life. I don't care what they eat, but I can tell you that even though i am FAR from the model patient, i DO try to eat well, take my supplements, and i would never EVER advise against the manual, OR give out irresponsible shortcuts as if it is a wonderful perk of some sort. If i do something that is not with the manual, i am CERTAINLY not going to get on here and advise anyone else to do it too!! Sorry Dr R-- I am not nice today. Maybe tomorrow. S 5 years out and still trying to follow the best advice on the best surgery in the world. > One of my patients is having some problems several years (5) after > surgery. > > Her complaints are: > Abdominal pain > Bloating and Nausea > > Here is her food diary: > > Can you tell what she might be doing wrong? > > ;-) > > DrR > > PS Be nice... > > Sunday July 24, 2005 > Breakfast----- 2 cups of coffee( Millstone Chocolate Velvet) > Snack------1 Banana, Key Lime yougurt(Breyers) > Lunch-----1 Lobster cake, small baked potato, 1 Banana, 8 Ounce coke > Dinner-----2 Thin slices of deli ham, two pieces of bread, & #65533; slice of > cheese., 4 ounces of coke from lunch. > Snack---------Peanut Butter Sandwich > > Monday July 25, 2005 > Breakfast---------1Banana, Optifast Breakfast Bar > Lunch------Healthy Choice(Asiago Chicken) Pasta and vegetables > 1 bottle of diet Lipton citrus green tea > 1 oatmeal cake > Dinner------ Turkey Sandwich with 1 slice of cheese. > > Tuesday July 26th > Breakfast---------1 Banana, 1 cup of cherries, Key Lime Yogurt > Lunch---------Lipton Green Citrus Tea > Dinner--------Grilled Chicken with tossed salad > Snack---------snack cake > > Wednesday July 27th > Breakfast--------- 1 cup of chocolate velvet coffee, breakfast bar, banana > Lunch-----------Fish, mixed vegetables, cherry coke. > Snack-------2 peanut butter & chocolate chip rice cakes, Pineapple > Cottage Cheese(Breakstone) > Dinner---------Remainder of Lunch (fish) > > Thursday July28th > Breakfast-----Optifast breakfast bar, 1 cup of coffee > Lunch-------Healthy Choice (chicken, vegetables, pasta with sauce) apple > crisp dessert. 10 cherries and 1 bottle of diet lipton citrus green tea > Dinner--------- & #65533; bean burrito & #65533; cup pintos and cheese, 3 oreos > > Friday----------- > Breakfast-------------1/2 cup red seedless grapes & #65533; cup cherries, 1 > white cheddar rice cake. 1 cup of tea > Lunch-------------- grapes, cherries bottled water > Dinner-------------1 Chicken breast, slaw,1/4 biscuit > Snack---------------1 mini snicker bar > > Saturday------------ > Breakfast-------2 cups of chocolate coffee > Lunch---------- A few bites of leftover chicken(YUCK) slaw, bread > Dinner----------Nothing > Tea,coffee, soda, water throughout the day. Guest guest
I, too, am FAR from being perfect, with food and otherwise, and admit that I have weaknesses in following Dr. R and the manual he has set forth. I agree we need to try our best! I need to try harder for sure! Cheryl

Guest guest
Ditto to and and all those that follow the manual. I contribute SO MUCH of my success (losing 169 pounds in a year) to following that manuall! I confess openly that I don't drink Gatorade since I was four months post op - but I drink lots of Smart Water - nearly 100 oz a day and salt my food to get the sodium in - and my blood work/levels are just fine! I've NEVER been sick, had BM problems, had reflux, etc., Absolutely NO COMPLICATIONS whatsoever! WHY??? Maybe it's because I follow " the rules " Dr. R has set for us, maybe because I avoid carbs when I can, little to no fried foods, and sweets. I will do these things only in moderation on rare occasions and take pride in my success and being a rule follower. I have never felt deprieved, if I want something that isn't the healthiest choice, I have some of it - but a bite or two - not a entire serving - - - and it's satifying without making me sick. I can't tolerate milk and ice cream- I get terrible bloating and gas (raw broccoli does this too me too), but dairy in general is okay - cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese is all fine in limited quanties. I take all my vitamins, actigal (which I'm still on a year post op), citrucel is a must twice daily and calcium suppliments, since we are prone to lack calcium post-op! I drink protein shakes and eat protein bars daily to boost my vitamin and protein intake as well as eat veggies and other forms of protein in every meal and most of my snacks. I avoid tea and coffee (tho I LOVE and CRAVE coffee - I've had three cups in the past 6 months and am trying to completely avoid it!) Thanks to hot green chai tea - I've gotten better about wanting it! I NEVER have tried and never will drink anything carbinated - that's just too scary to me and beyond too risky to our delicate tummies! So - like I've said before, I treat my new tummy - now a year old, just as that - my NEW TUMMY! I'm careful about all that I put in it, careful not to overfill it and careful to take care of it in the best way possible - by following the doctors' (Dr. R, H & Raj's) advice and soaking up the knowledge they share with us! This has been the best thing that's ever happended to me and I'm not going to ruin it by indulging in things that got me to nearly 400 pounds in the first place! Thank you Dr. Rutledge, Dr. Hargroder and Dr. Rajaram for this wonderful surgery, spectacular aftercare and the compassion you and all the CLOS surgeons, staff, and nurses have for your patients! I'm one 110% satified " customer! " I can't thank you all enough! Keep up the good work and always feel free to tell us like it is - tough love is better than no help and risking everything you all have worked so hard to accomplish! Well - I'm afraid of heights, so I'm hopping off this soapbox of mine for now! (yeah - I can " hop " now - another MGB per) ... funny - at 5' 11 " and someone who wears 3 inch heals most of the time- who'd a thought that heights were a problem - LOL) All my best to everyone, this is just how I feel - not meaning to offend anyone - just what I do with my " tool " and why I do things this way! Take care & God Bless! Michele " Chels " in Mid-MO 8/3/04 390/221/??? Drs. H & Raj in FL juliewmson <jwmson1@...> wrote: As usual - is my hero!!!! Ditto in triplicate everything she said! Guest guest
Well, she might want to quit the coke, tea, coffee and chocolate for a start. Then I'd eliminate the coleslaw, ice cream and cheese, then switch to plain yogurt several times a day. Also skipping meals isn't a good idea either. You didn't mention citrucel, gatorade, supplements, or vitamins, so I'm guessing those aren't being taken. I'd go back to stage 2 diet and gradually add in new foods to see which one(s) are causing the problems. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I personally have no problem with the occasional small portion of chocolate, coleslaw, flavored yogurts (I like the Dannon Light and Fit 90 cal. ones) and cheese is a real staple in my diet. Good for me, great protein etc. Just wanted to clarify that. Occasional sugar doesn't bother me either, if I over do, I get gas. barb dudley, high point, oct 15, 2003, 242/
