Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am entering stage II and really feeling adventerous. I would love to hear what people have been trying on their stage II menus?? Any cool tricks? I have really only tried mashed potatoes and refried beans yummy. Also, I would be greatful to hear an example of anyone's daily eating. I have no idea if I am eating enough or too much. Here is an example of today... Morning: Shake made of- Yogurt, Chocolate Whey Protein, Citrucel, Banana, Scoop of Peanut Butter (SSOooooo good) makes approx 8ish oz. then I have about 12 oz of V8 then 20 oz of Gatorade throughout day. Usually 12-16 oz of some kind of soup either for lunch or dinner today I had about 10 spoonfulls of Beans (refried) took about 30 minutes another 12 oz of V8 maybe one or two popcicles or a fudgecicle maybe more yogurt with citrucel As I type it, it seems like too much...I have never gotten to the point where I feel like I really need to stop, so I guess that's good. I would love to hear from others... Cheers, _________________________________________________________________ Free yourself from those irritating pop-up ads with MSn Premium. Guest guest
According to the manual (who we all should have a copy of on our computer for easy reference I believe) stage II foods are primarily applesauce, mashed potatoes, soups, etc. Soft foods. There is nothing " magical " about stage II food - it is simply " soft " to protect your staple lines. In my opinion - that might help you lose some of the weight but would not be the way I would go. I don't want to live on mashed potatoes and/or applesauce - even soup. I am however willing to " cut back " and very closely watch what I eat for a few days - longer if needed. I am not the poster child of " dieting " - anyone that knows me knows that. There are things I am willing to do and things I am not willing to do. I know that none of us want to " diet " . But - the reality is that if we regain weight it is more than likely something we are doing. My suggestion - and take it or leave it - always your choice - keep a food diary. Literally write down every bite of food you put in your mouth, even the BLT's (bites, licks and tastes). I bet at the end of the day you will see areas where there can be improvement. I know that I am being " diligent " things are better - and when I am being " slack " there are always things that I am doing to sabotage myself. Be well everyone. > > Can anyone tell me what the Stage II foods are....I've gained 20 pounds and > I'm going to try and go back to Stage II foods to lose it...but I can't find it > on the website....Thanks.... > > Marie/Florida > > >
Guest guest
Dear Marie, Stage two foods are soft, mashed potatoes, refried beans, mashed sweet potatoes etc. What we usually recommend patients that have regained some weight do is make sure you eat your protein first then fruits and vegetable, then carbs. That seems to be best, don’t diet, your body will go into famine mode. Be sure you are taking your Citrucel as well. A. LeRoy CLOS 704-871-0031 704-682-8009 cell 704-871-0148 fax clr@... Guest guest
, I think when most of us here say " diet " we don't mean starvation by any means. My thought when I hear the word " diet " for myself is watching every bite I put in my mouth - making sure that " good stuff " goes in and not " bad stuff " . I certainly would never advocate total liquids or anything like that. I think like or not a lot of us have to " diet " occasionally if we over indulge for example during the holidays. That doesn't mean we starve ourselves. It means we go back to " reality " - what the rest of the " normal weight " world does. Just my 2 cents in GA > > Dear Marie, > Stage two foods are soft, mashed potatoes, refried beans, mashed sweet > potatoes etc. What we usually recommend patients that have regained > some weight do is make sure you eat your protein first then fruits and > vegetable, then carbs. Guest guest
Dear , Absolutely, but you have no idea how many post ops when they hit a plateau decide to diet, for an MGB person that is not a good idea. You already have decreased nutritional absorption, and out very adaptable bodies will go into what I call famine mode. They hold on to every calorie and ounce of nutrition they can, which has the opposite effect, in other words you don’t lose weight. I think the same would hold true for those who may have regained a little weight. A. LeRoy CLOS 704-871-0031 704-682-8009 cell 704-871-0148 fax clr@... Guest guest
OK - I buy that. So I have a very real to the point question. What do you suggest those of us do who have regained some weight or struggle with 10 pounds or more. I know that repeatedly it is said " call me and we can talk " but the purpose of this list is for exchange of information. There are lots of people out there who read but never ask questions (not nearly as shy as I am apparently!). Please tell us what the recommendation is for those who need to do something. If " diet " is not the answer what is? Isn't making sure you " eat protein first, then fruits and vegetables and then carbs " " dieting " in a sense? I know it is what we are " supposed to do " anyway. I really don't mean to be argumentative. If what I am doing is counterproductive I need to know it - and there are several others out there that have asked as well. I would love re-lose this 30 pounds - and maybe even a few more - and haven't had much luck with it in the last year or more. I truly know a lot of it is up to me - but maybe I am going about it the wrong way. Help us all please. in GA > > > > Dear Marie, > > Stage two foods are soft, mashed potatoes, refried beans, mashed > sweet > > potatoes etc. What we usually recommend patients that have regained > > some weight do is make sure you eat your protein first then fruits > and > > vegetable, then carbs. Guest guest
Here's what I think we should be doing. Notice I said SHOULD, because I don't necessarily follow this advice. I think we should eat a lot of protein, a lot of veggies, a lot of fruit, some high-quality dairy (cheese, yogurt, maybe skim milk if we can handle it) and not much in the way of bready carbohydrates. I think if we ate this stuff, and completely left the empty calories alone, most of us would maintain, or continue to lose (depending where we were on the journey) and we would be eating nutrient-dense foods, which our bypassed-bodies need! I tell myself to do this, and sometimes I succeed, and sometimes I don't. ly, you could almost take away the entire supermarket save the outer periphery (produce, meats, dairy, veggies) and it would be perfect. It's difficult to always eat healthy, especially this time of year. I definitely wouldn't limit the amount of healthy foods you eat. Just limit the garbage. Maybe that will help. Hope this helps a little -- I know only too well how hard it is! Joanie 5/25/04 Drs.
