Guest guest
Hello Everyone! I just wanted to update you all on how my visit went. Last Monday, my grandma and I flew out to Cleveland, OH for my appointment on Tuesday. The weather wasn't the nicest but we had lunch with a friend and went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which was a lot of fun. We stayed at the Wyndham, one of the hotels that partners with the Cleveland Clinic, we were able to get the hospital rate and received a welcome letter. They also provide a shuttle to take you back and forth from the Cleveland Clinic. At 730 the next day I went for the usual x-rays, my appointment was at 830am. We met with Janet, Dr. Matejczyk's assistant and I talked with her about my hip and all the good stuff. She is a really fun lady! We then saw the doctor and I think she talked to us for a good 45 minutes! We looked at my x-rays (poor poor hip, some avascular necrosis, ball part very transparent on the x-ray compared to the left, and appeared to be smushed into the socket), spoke about the surgery, what our goals were for recovery and ability afterwards, then the parts that would be used as well as their sizes. She basically put our minds at ease and was confident I would be back to my old self walking around without crutches doing what I used to do. It's great as well because she has done hip replacements on other Pseudos as well as other LP's who were not achon, she is also fimiliar with LPA. It was wonderful to find a doctor who has no problem working with me while my local ortho surgeon was very apprehensive. The staff at the Cleveland Clinic were absolutely amazing and there is definitely an atmosphere of genuine concern and caring. The Cleveland Clinic's Ortho is #4 in the country. For out of towners like myself, they have many visitors from all over the world come in. They have a great concierge program to help. I called them and I told them the dates I would be there and the price range for the hotel and they called the hotel, made the arrangements, as well as car arrangements for airport pick up. It was really nice as I had never been there before. What also is nice are the shuttles the Cleveland Clinic provide to take you from one building to the others, as they have many spread over a few blocks. Also, if you want to do some site seeing, they have shuttles that will take you to specific attractions around the city for free like area malls, museums, etc. It is so nice to feel so well taken care of and have confidence in a doctor who has the experience! My surgery is May 19th, (can't come soon enough lol) and it will be at the Euclid Hospital which is part of the Cleveland Clinic. I should be there for about a week then spend sometime at their rehab, in the same building as well. The proof will be in the pudding of how my surgery went and the aftermath, but so far so good, I'm a fan of the Cleveland Clinic! Sometimes you do have to go out of state for the best care and I am glad I made that decision. As for me, I'm still getting around on crutches, I'm really trying to take it easy as my left hip is becoming sore every now and then, so, I am really trying to preserve my left one as so far it has no issues,my right one is the bad one. I am trying to keep a happy balance of rest as well as some activity. Since I have until mid-May, I have thought about maybe doing some volunteer office work, thinking possibly two days a week for four hours each. Something so I don't lose my mind stuck at home, but not enough to aggrivate my leg even more. That's where I'm at! www.clevelandclinic.org -, 30, WI
