,

He's doing great. Please tell him I said congrats. No one believes us when we

tell them what miracles these devices are but you know and Cherry knows now.

There's no denying it. What is he saying about all this and how about his

family and friends?

Alice

his list for yesterday and last night:

voices

cars going by

phone ringing

bathroom

chewing

silverware

running water

being called from upstairs

voices in music

footsteps

today:

open and close the car door

clicks when starting the car

barbershop sounds-

tv

people's voices

computer (thought aol's welcome was me calling him) ;-)

everything

not finished yet!

have a nice nite!

m ;-)

yeah, he really is doing great.

and he's just starting to relax and open up a little bit.

as hard as i tried not to, i was a bit hovery last night.

but i was glad that he understood that this is new to me too and i

was just wondering, and checking, and well, i'm the wife ;-)

i have been printing away with the posts for him to read, and we

will make it practice for him reading aloud.

i took the video to work today and i know i saw my co-workers holding

back the tears, while realizing and acknowledging all the little

things we take for granted.

he's saying he is enjoying it!

i asked him if he is, and if it bothers him, and he just says he's

fine and he likes it.

we've found out quickly that if he wants to converse and understand

the words it has to be quiet and no distraction. he has been

lipreading me and probably everyone but he can definately hear the

voice and understand alot of words.

we are naturally continuing to use asl, and while he always did look

more directly at my face when signing, i can really see him reading

my lips more than my sign.

we talked about that it's not quite time to start to worry about

pushing his understaning speech rite now, relying on his new hearing.

he needs time to adjust to just hearing sound and voices in the first

place and has to begin to be able to tell the difference at some

point as well.

he told me that the reason he was so quiet last night is that he was

trying to pick up words on the tv. if he could anticipate what they

were saying he could " catch it " . " pick, pick, pick " . he would watch

and wait to see it and hear it at the same time.

amazing to me.

his family is ecstatic, and tomorrow he will return to work to a crew

he's been working with for 22 years, and he will have his first

taiste of how his friends feel about it. both hearing and deaf.

i did come on line to ask a quick fix for his being able to wear his

body processor to work tomorrow, as he is still thumbs with the ear

worn, almost droping it last night, but he will take it with him

along with extra batteries for both tomorrow.

his concern about wearing the body worn is going to the bathroom.

he doesn't like that it's attached to his waist belt.

i wanna make him something real quick, and dont have time to crochet

it!

so any thoughts on something i could maybe sew up real quick or what

works?

oh boy, a whol new world for martha

nite nite,

m ;-)

LOL, yeah,, AOL do that famous " you got mail " .... it

" jumped me " at first but now,, i noticed i can hear a small click before the

famous " you got mail " .

Let me tell you another story, it related, but it was funny. Along with

AOL's IM, I also have MSN and messager. With MSN messager, if someone

comes online, it knock just like if you would knock on door. For 3 days, I

keep

going to front door to find NO ONE at door, I wasn't happy! On day 3,

finally figured it out.

Yes Lee... I did the same thing. Whenever someone left it would sound like

a door shutting and I would look out at the hall door to see if my husband

was getting something because it sounded just like that door! I still once

in awhile look.. but most of the time I figure out it is the computer.
