I have found a few things that are high in protien. Cottage cheese for a

small serving is 11 grams of protien, campbells chunky soup has over 25 grams of

protien, snack on a good roast beef from the deli this is high in protien ( and

iron) chicken even a quick piece from a fast food joint is high in protien. I

cannot stomache carbs to well so be careful about tricking your body into

thinking it is on atkins!

good luck with it,

Hey friend,

Cottage cheese

soy products

seafood

and of course meat (if you're into that sort of thing. LOL).

To get more iron, try raisins, prunes, liver (yuk), and dark green leafy

veggies.

When you make a salad use the greener lettuces and add some pine nuts or

sunflower seeds on top to add a little protein.

I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

Stay on top of this, Heidi.

Stay healthy!

Talk to you soon.

Love,

heidi... this is not advice, just suggestions made from my OWN

experience:

do NOT let the anemia get out of hand -- it is harder than heck to

get it back to normal! ASK YOUR DOC FOR CHROMAGEN FORTE- it helped me

somewhat , maybe you are not as bad as i was yet and you can still

turn iron around with CF.. i ended up having the shots!! i still have

stains on my butt from them not to mention they hurt!! i am speaking

from experience here. i didnt realize how worn out and run down i

was until my iron got back to normal.

whey is the easiest protein to digest and absorb. a really good food

source is cottage cheese and i do well with protein bars. i like the

atkins creamy cinnamon roll kind. i cut it into 10 pieces and eat a

tid bit at a time throughout the day (20g) you need 50 g per day

minimum.

good luck honey! and you take care of the bloodwork. call clos and

see if they have any suggestions.

be WELL!!

happy new year

Heidi,

I eat cottage cheese, yogurt, tofu, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken

salad, salmon, halibut, lobster, shrimp, crab, peanut butter, a nice

keish is wonderful with eggs and diced ham and cheese..... I can not eat

dense meats like beef, pork etc...here is one of my favorite recipes

that has lots of protein.

Layer a lasagna pan with Filo dough or Pilsberry pastry

sheest...between the layers you add this mixture: combine feta cheese,

couple of eggs, diced onion, a defrosted brick of frozen spinach, well

drained and well chopped. Little salt and pepper. Bake...it is very

good, soft, hight in protein, also the spinach has iron......Enjoy

I have a question. You mentioned " not tricking your body into thinking you

are on Atkins. " What does that mean and why is it bad? I no longer have a

taste for bread, potatoes, most pasta, rice and so forth, and especially

anything

with sugar, so my diet (15 months after surgery and 110 pounds lost) consists

of mostly fish, chicken, meat, vegetables and fruits. I feel great and

while this is a modified form of Atkins, your message made me question whether

I

should be forcing myself to eat more carbohydrates.

Thanks for answering.

This is only my personal opinion not Dr. Rutledges. I am 13 months out and

have lost 112 pounds. I weight 122 and am 5'3. I wear a size 2/4. This sounds

fantastic Trust me I know I'm tickled! The problem I have is that my body is

still losing. I have had a hard time eating carbs and have really loved protien.

I also need to eat constantly all day! I believe this has had something to do

with my rate of loss. I am now on a high calorie diet ( can you believe this

one! LOL) and have incorporated 1/3 more carbs into my diet. It seems to be

working. I only lost 5 pounds last month. Dr R office is not to concerned since

we are to level off after 12-16 months but considering my loose skin weights

about 10 pounds I really cannot afford to loose anymore. ( heck, the skin

hanging from my arms alone weights that LOL)

There is nothing wrong in my opinion with eating the way you are or that I

have been, you just need to be aware that if you do not have alot left to loose

you do not want to kick start your body into another diet mode without

realizing it.

Hello,

Be careful. You may need to talk to Dr. R about this. If you lose too much

you could become very unhealthy. You are losing very fast. Please, eat as

much stuff as you can. Even if you thought it was bad for you. I was in a

similar situation as you. My body self adjusted and I gained back some

weight. Hopefully your body will wake up and kick in and decide that hey, I

need to stabilize here. Keep close track.
