Guest guest
Hi , I found porpourri sachets popular but did mine in georgette decorated with pretty ribbon. I am doing bath sachets now filled with scrubby stuff or soap trimmings. Herbal sachets are popular too. hth Di
Guest guest
Hi, Barb. I think it is ground up, dried corn cobs. They make excellent fillers for sachets and excellent scent fixatives in pot pourris. HTH pamela Sachets Hello Everyone, I bought a sachet packet today and was hoping someone could tell what one of the ingredients is. To me the ingredient I am trying to identify looks like ground up corn cob, but it is too light weight to be corn cob. It is and spungy, kinda light brown with silver in it. I seems to absorb the fragrance very well. I would love to be able to make these. Can anyone help me out? Thank you so much, Barbara
Guest guest
It vermeculite (sp)...you can get it in the lawn dept of a home building store. Its the little whitish pills you see in potted plants when you buy them at the store. Shana

Guest guest
VERMICULITE is the brown/silver stuff you see mixed with potting soil. When you see the little while " pearls " in potting soil that is PERLITE. Both are used to keep soil well aerated. Both are available in bags at garden centers. Vermiculite can also be found in very large bags, the same way peat moss is sold, at places like Agway. nne > Message: 10 > Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 19:49:56 EDT > From: dunkissinfrogs@... > Subject: Re: Sachets > > It vermeculite (sp)...you can get it in the lawn dept of a home building > store. However, I just saw a thing on HGTV on one of the gardening shows that said that some vermiculites have asbestos dust in them and to be careful when using them. Guest guest
I too looked into a packet of sachet at a store and found the filler to resemble a very light weight stryrofoam ? or some other type of product like it. I also looks like some mica had been mixed with it purposely to distort the actual product. I have seen the actual corncob mixture colored the same way. I was thinking that adding Better Bath or some other product (starch) would act as a scent fixative. Does anyone else have any suggestions on the sachet filler dilemma? Guest guest
Hi Charise. I was wondering....do you mix them up in the glass jar and immediately package them up? I would think if you left them in the jar for awhile....maybe in the warm sun....the scent would really have time to incorporate into the cob material. Just a guess tho. Blessings, Jet ************************************************************************* I used a recipe I found on this site for making a corn cob sachet and they are a really good seller but I am finding that the scent is not lasting very long. Guest guest
Charise, Mix 1/4 Cup of aroma beads/sachet beads to 2 Cups of corn cob add FO to taste/flavor. Put in air tight glass container. Shake a couple of times a day for one week to allow beads to absorb the FO. I package mine in organza bag and sell. HTH " You are unique... In all the world there is only one you " .-Siri-Dya S. Guest guest
Hello Charise, I let them sit out on a cookie sheet to dry and soak into the corn. Then package them. If you are not ready to package/sell them right away, store them in a glass container sealed. I do not like to package them until I am ready to sell. Guest guest
Charise, Aroma or sachet beads are little clear pellets which are hard. They hold the FO for a bit longer than using only corn cob. It can be colored or left in it's natural form (I don't color mine because I like it to look natural). There are more info on the supplier website which I use but, I can't get you the info. I'm typing this email while waiting for cable-my ISP to come back online. I use my FO to taste/smell because some of the ones I've used have different strengths. As you check and shake them daily you'll know if you should add more FO. I've had to do that a few times. I don't know if I can give the supplier info on this group so, PM me when you have the time. HTH, " You are unique... In all the world there is only one you " .-Siri-Dya S. Khalsa -----Original Message----- From: charise [mailto:jcebpatton@...] , what are aroma beads? Do you have to use them with the corn cob because I just use the crushed corn cob. If I do have to use the aroma beads, where would I get them? The recipe I have just calls for crushed corn cob and FO. I'm not even really sure what the recommended amount of FO is. Thanks for the help. Charise
Guest guest
Can I give you gals a hint on the Aroma beads?????? They are nothing more than the pellets that you buy for doll stuffing from Poly fill. Go to walmart or a craft store and look for Poly Pellets. They are about $2.50 for a 20 oz bag. Guest guest
They are NOT poly pellets, I wish they were!! I thought I was so smart, and I would buy them from Wal-Mart too....but guess what, no go! I tried and they do not work!! Ughh! I bought a 5lb pail of aromabeads fairly cheap and they looked like them but are definitely different. I also purchased a large bag of corn cob litter from Wal-Mart for 2.97 and mix it with my aromabeads...works wonderful! ;0) HTH!
