Guest guest
Hi Ellen: I haven't answered any e-mails from this site in months as my computer has been down but I had surgery 11/29/2000. I lost 135 and I don't know how many inches. I did loose about the same as you in sizes. I am now a 14 and holding. I am happy with that and if I firm up and get smaller wonderful. If not I am Happy here. I haven't lost any weight to speak of in quite a while and have gained back approximately 15 lbs. I sure don't want to gain any more back. What I did about the clothes situation was, I found a couple of consignment shops that I really liked and let the people who ran it know what my situation was and they would notify me of any good things in my size that was, what I was use to wearing. Once I stableized then I went to the department stores and dress shops. I hope you have already had many responses to you question as I have not checked my e-mail in quite a while. Guest guest
Hi Ellen: What a wonderful delemna to befall you!! Congrats on your weight loss and your new clothes. I'm almost 3 weeks post surgery and started off in 18/20's and can now fit into drawstring 16 pants... but of course I'm one of those who has the " apple " shaped body, so my tummy will probably be the last to go. I have a closet full of smaller clothes (many with new tags on them because my view of myself was that I thought I was SMALLER than I actually was)..sad then but happily now at some point in time on the way down in size I'll be able to finally wear them!! What you might think of doing (if you don't want to invest in alot of new clothes) is just buy one or two serviceable pieces---if you wear mostly slacks, then try some of the pull on stretchy fabrics that look a bit like a jean material but in cream, taupe or black. Coordinate with a semi-loose top that you can dress up or down depending on your jewelry. Watch for clearance sales as well and get just a couple of things to get you through. I have some really nice items I bought on ebay that are made of knit that seem to give you room as you go down in size, so you might try that as well. Just some suggestions that I thought you might be able to use... Guest guest
Buying new clothes is one of the very best things about MGB! Yes, we're healthier, yes we'll live longer...yada yada...but CLOTHES! Such fun. You wait. It'll get even better. I remember crying the day I realized I could kiss Lane et al goodbye forever, I cried at my size 8 jeans, and I can't even tell you how much fun it is to shop. And yes, I have two brand new bikinis sitting in my closet! Mind you, the budget is limited, so I don't buy everything I try on -- that's another wonderful thing -- you don't buy it because it's the only thing that fits, you buy it because it's beautiful on you! And because I can shop anywhere now, I get some wonderful " deals " on things. Enjoy it all...I'd say that during your rapid weight loss, you should keep the buying under control (but shop a lot and try things on -- that's the best part) and then when things settle down, you can buy separates that fit well. And there's always the tailor. I'm about 25-30 pounds less now than I was last June, and I have some outfits from that period that I love. I'm thinking about paying to have them taken in. We'll see...have to find a good tailor first. It's a wild ride, and more fun than I ever imagined! Have fun on the journey! Guest guest
--Hi Ellen Congratulations on your loss! I am one year out and have lost 115 lbs. I didn't want to spend money on transitional clothes either, so I went on ebay and bought almost everything there. I wear cotton dresses alot in the summer and would buy them for $10 or $15 dollars. I just got rid of my transitional clothes last week - it was great and I didn't mind giving them away since I didn't spend much. Have fun! My husband is so excited that he wants to buy me my first ever bikini. I said no not yet maybe soon. Guest guest
I am so happy for you Ellen! I have the same problem! Isnt it awful! I have been giving all of my fat clothes away! The few new things I have bought have been at Kohl's or Bealls Outlet, a pair of workout pants for $3.88, a pair of size 20 stretch cordoroys for $8.00, a pair of size 22 black stretch Jeans for $9.00 and a couple of XL shirts for $5 to $10. Guest guest
Congratulations on your weight loss. I would love to know your secret. I am three weeks out tomorrow, and I am not seeing a great weight loss and I am quite discouraged. I personally would buy as little as possible so that you don't have to spend, spend, spend until you are at your goal. I am very happy for you and would love to know what you have done. Where did you have your surgery? Did you post pictures? If not, I wish you would. Again, Congratulations!!! --- ellen serpa <ellenscoco@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone, > > The other day I went into my closet and went thru > all of my clothes and found my " fat clothes " on the > floor was in a bigger pile then what was hanging. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, Congratulations on your success! I am 10 months out and 125lbs down. I was in a 26-28 and now can wear anything between a 4-8!!! I have shed many tears of happiness as you can imagine. I called Salvation army to come and lug away all the trash bags full of clothes that no longer fit me. It was such a surprise when the guy who was picking up the clothes asked me why I was getting rid of so much stuff and I told him it was because I'd lost a lot of weight, he just looked at me and started laughing! I asked him what was so funny and he said. " You! There is NO WAY you could have ever been fat! " I had to prove it by showing him some before photos, and then he still didn't believe me and said that I was something else! Made me smile for the rest of the day. I've spent quite a bit on clothes recently, things I NEVER thought I'd wear, tight fitting tops, low rise jeans et all. Congratulations again, it's such a wonderful ride! Guest guest
Lynn Don't be discouraged!!! Some of us are slow losers. But at least we are losing. Others lose fast and that's great for them. Maybe we won't need so much surgery if we lose slow. The verdicts still out on that!!!! See where you are in a year from now Lynn. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I'm sure. I am 6 MOS out and have lost 58 lbs. Yes I'd like to be where Ella is at 82 lbs gone. But before my MGB I couldn't lose no matter what! So I've come to grips that I am not one of the speedy losers but I am losing!!! So will you! I learned from one wise woman on this site and I quote her often ....repeat after me Lynn " I AM PLUMBED FOR SUCCESS!!!' It will happen ! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Please don't be discourage. It's a wonderful thing. I felt like that the first few weeks and didn't see the results right away but then bam it started coming off. keep talking with us and your friends and family and we are now your extended family. I had my surgery done in davenport fl. with Dr. P. He was wonderful and he told us if you have any concerns to call him. Who did your surgery and where? Please be patient and you will see the drop. I did and am loving every minute of it. If you need to vent, post again. Feel good Ellen Re: " fat clothes " Congratulations on your weight loss. I would love to know your secret. Guest guest
Lynne, I was so discouraged also at the beginning. I lost 12 lbs the first week, then zero! for two weeks. I was really worried. The next month I just lost 10 lbs. I felt like that the first few months would be the big loss then it would slow down and was worried about tapering off after a few months. But the next month, I lost 10 lbs, and the next.. I stayed steady losing just 10 lbs every month and now I am down 115 in just over a year. So don't sweat it! Relax and let it work.
