Guest guest
Yes, Sohada. This is the same array your daughter will be receiving. Alice Yipppeeee!!! :-D Hi everyone! I just got back from the meeting with my surgeon, and I am now an official CICIW (Cochlear Implant Candidate In Waiting)!! I'm scheduled for surgery on August 12, and I will be getting implanted with the Nucleus 24. I'm especially excited because the surgeon told me that folks that make the Nucleus have just tested and released a new sensor array that will not destroy my existing hearing. Not that I have that much to destroy.... I hear 250 Hz just about perfectly but it drops off to nothing pretty soon after that.
Guest guest
Congratulations on the wonderful news. My daughter is scheduled for CI Surgery on July 9th at Childrens Hospital in Boston. She will be getting the Nucleus 24 Contour with Soft-tip. I am VERY interested in learning about what you said of the implant your surgeon will do of not destroying residual hearing and the sensor array you are talking about???!!! Is this the same thing as the one my daughter will be getting or something even less intrusive?? I would apprecaite any info at all. Thanks Sohada Yipppeeee!!! :-D Hi everyone! Guest guest
so alice, i thought that the soft-tip would mean just a little bit more gentle but that there would still be signifact damage done to any residual hearing........am i wrong? hmm?? confused! Guest guest
Sohada, The purpose of the soft tip is to allow the least amount of damage possible thus allowing the residual hearing to remain. It's more protective of the delicate cochlea wall. Alice
Guest guest
thanks alice, i am aware of this. but i was told that she would not be able to revert to hearing aids again in that ear and that there would still be signifact damage so i am confused about that. also i thought the array was the same, but she said " new sensor array " which led me to question if something else has been developed or maybe under trials that i am not familiar with... sorry for being so confusing, and confused!! :-) sohada Re: Yipppeeee!!!( no damage?) Guest guest
I'll be at Dr Horn's office tomorrow so I'll ask him what this means. I'm sure he'll tell me and I'll report back. Guest guest
Hi Alice, I'm glad you're going to check with Dr. Horn about this. Cris was the one who mentioned it originally, but since I'm at my pre- implant, 0% discrimination, can't-hear-nuttin-no-how-stage, I really don't trust my ears on this. > > thanks alice, i am aware of this. but i was told that she would > not be able to revert to hearing aids again in that ear and that > there would still be signifact damage so i am confused about that. > also i thought the array was the same, but she said " new sensor > array " which led me to question if something else has been developed > or maybe under trials that i am not familiar with... > > sorry for being so confusing, and confused!! :-) > > sohada
Guest guest
, That's even better because I won't have to go up on the elevator now. I actually have an appt with Cris tomorrow. Guest guest
I found out that it is the same implant my daughte will get. Its supposed to do the least damage, but does not claim " NO Damage " . here's the answer my audiologist gave me, after I described to her what was written about the " sensor array " " This is the Nucleus 24 Contour Advance with Softip, the implant Rahmeh is getting. It is designed to put less pressure on the tissues of the cochlea as it is being inserted, as compared to all other implants, in hopes of preserving cochlear structures and therefore doing the least possible damage to residual hearing. There is no guarantee, however, of someone having any residual hearing left after any implant surgery. " Re: Yipppeeee!!!( no damage?) Guest guest
I checked on this today also. The implant is called the Contour Advance and is the Nucleus 24C with the soft tip. Alice
