Guest guest
Hi all, I have been lurking around here as I've researched Lap Band surgery and am now scheduled for May 29th. To say I'm nervous is an understatement. The only surgery I've had was removing my wisdom teeth and the only time I've been in a hospital was when I had my son, but I think it's going to be ok, I just have some concerns/quesitons. ~My friend is also going to have it done locally, and she said that I should have my gall bladder removed since I'm having the surgery done anyhow since I will have problems later. Is that true? ~I'm afraid of losing my hair, anyone had a problem with this? ~I have to do the preop diet, any suggestions on food? ~Any suggestions on hotel? I would like one close to the hospital for my companion. ~I have a low pain threshold, should I be worried? Thank you! a
Guest guest
-------------- Original message -------------- From: "ixtacihuatl" <ixtacihuatl@...> Hi all,I have been lurking around here as I've researched Lap Band surgery and am now scheduled for May 29th. To say I'm nervous is an understatement. The only surgery I've had was removing my wisdom teeth and the only time I've been in a hospital was when I had my son, but I think it's going to be ok, I just have some concerns/quesitons. Hi a, Congratulations on you upcoming surgery date!! My name is Dana and I was banded 2-1-06. I'll try to help you with a few of your questions... ~My friend is also going to have it done locally, and she said that I should have my gall bladder removed since I'm having the surgery done anyhow since I will have problems later. Is that true? It is possible that dramatic weight loss will cause gallstones. When I was 24 I had lost about 35lbs in less than a month (fasting) and almost 1yr later started having gall-bladder attacks. Three wks later I had it removed (not laproscopically) It was the worst pain and surgery I had ever had. Ask Nina if you should consider this. Another lady on this group recently had hers taken out during the banding. Not sure who?????~I'm afraid of losing my hair, anyone had a problem with this? No one that I am aware of.... RNY patients usually are at risk due to lack of absorption of vitamins. I have had no hair loss.~I have to do the preop diet, any suggestions on food? I didn't have to do the pre-op but I know its proteins, veggies for most. ~Any suggestions on hotel? I would like one close to the hospital for my companion. Your companion can stay in your room if you want. Each room is private and has big comfy leather sofa. Nina has a list of local hotels. I stayed at the Hotel Lucerna the night before surgery. It was nice, and really nice restaurant.~I have a low pain threshold, should I be worried? Not really, will make sure you have as much pain meds as you need. Tylenol liquid is all I used for a couple of days. Nothing much helped the gas pains except walking and time. But they were more of an annoyance than pain. You will be fine!! Good luck to you and your friend!! Thank you!a
Guest guest
First of all - congratulations on your choice. Dr. Aceves is the best. I personally have not had any hair loss. The pain in minimal - you are sent home with Tylenol. You will feel so much better after meeting the wonderful staff. There are not enough words to describe how great they are. Ernesto, transports you from place to place in the van. Yolanda, the patient coordinator has everything scheduled and makes you feel comfortable the minute you meet her. She is amazing. , Dr. Aceves nurse, is the best. He will be with you for the pre op testing, the surgery and afterwards. He is incredible. The doctor is so patient. He'll take time personally to make sure you understand and have time to ask questions. He'll check on you several times a day. He is very understanding and takes the time to listen. I never had to press the call button as everything was anticipated before I could ask. It's like a spa instead of a hospital. Feel free to email me directly if you have more questions. Good luck with your decision. Guest guest
Hi a~ You're doing the right thing by going to Dr. A-he's the best... His entire staff is amazing, you're in GREAT... Don't believe me, when you arrive at the hospital, look at the picture with the surgern with God.. I had a little hair loss-but it's because I lost weight SO fast... The closer you get to your ideal weight, the harder it it to lose.. I'm within about 16 pounds to my first goal weight of 150. I hope to reach 140-135 before the end of summer.. You'll feel healthier and lighter-your body will thank you for it... many hugs, Donna > > First of all - congratulations on your choice. Dr. Aceves is the > best.
