Guest guest
Kristal, Believe me you have nothing to worry about! I have been to Mexico a couple of times for surgery and I even took my youngest daughter for surgery. I will admit to being slightly nervous but the minute you meet Yolanda and the staff all of your fears are put to rest. I have never felt so well taken care of. Guest guest
Krystal, Don't be afraid of Mexico at all!! Worrying was a waste of time, it was exactly as ever-one has says on this site....A GREAT EXPERIENCE!! As far as surgeries go, I can only speak of the band. I am 3months out and doing great, learning alot, and very happy with my band. The g-bypass has it's share of critics, but I know of 2 friends that had it done without any complications, 1 friend that had to have a repeat surgery to fix a leak and 2 other friends that each lost family members shortly after the surgery, each had blood clots as a complication. IT IS A VERY BIG DECISION, AND IS PERMANENT!! The best part of the band is it is adjustable(tightened to cause more restriction) as needed. and can be removed if needed. Also, 1-2 years after each surgery type, the weight loss achieved is pretty equal. You could always try the band for a year or so and then opt for the bypass if your weight loss wasn't significant enough however, the reverse can't be done so easily. It's very difficult to insert the band after bypass. I wish you luck in any choice you make, Dana -------------- Original message -------------- From: "kristalschmitz" <kristalschmitz@...> I am wanting to go to have RNY bypass. Guest guest
Kristal, Only you can decide about the choice of the RNY bypass. However, one thing that you can be certain of is that there is nothing to be a afraid of with going to Dr. A. He, his staff and the hospital are all top notch....you could not get better anywhere. Guest guest
Hi Krystal, I was banded on April 20th and while I was there I met a terrific lady named Stacey. She had just had the Gastric Bypass surgery. I Don't know much about it so maybe if Stacey is reading the posts she could talk to you about it more. I do know that I went alone and was scared but once I got there Yolanda made me feel totally comfortable. I never felt alone at all. Good Luck with your decision, Tammy I. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
There is nothing to be afraid of. everyone there is wonderful. I had the lap band on March 20th and they treat you very special. Everyone was just great. I have had no problems and the doctor here in USA that will do my fills has no problem with doing them. They seem to know Dr. A. My neiece had the RNY done here and she has lost 200 pounds in the past year. She is doing well but it took her a year to get approved. I have lost 41 as of today and its only been 6 weeks. I love my band and if i had to do it again i would. I trust Dr. A with all my heart. If you are worried talk to Nina and Dr. A. Maybe do band first wait a year and see if not happy do the RNY then. But afer a year or so you will lose as much wt. with the band as with the RNY. Molly Marshall DOB 4/20/2006 280/239/140 Re: scared please comfort Krystal, Don't be afraid of Mexico at all!! Guest guest
I have to agree with those that have responded, only you can decide what is right for you. I have had friends with RNY do just fine, none I have known to have complications/death...but there is a risk depending on pre-surgery complications (diabetes, too much excess weight, heart conditions...etc). If you have done your research and know RNY is your option then that is great. Dr. Aceves team is highly skilled and you will be in good hands, he takes his time on each patient and makes sure that things are done correctly the first time so there's no chance of having another surgery. Most of the folks in here are Lapbanders, I know there was one person getting the RNY when I was there getting my surgery, there outcome was good. Dr. Aceves takes his time, no rush with the surgery that is a fact. So going to Mexico is not a factor anymore for me, I think everyone goes through a period of being afraid at first but once you get there and meet the team you will see how professional and caring they all are for your well-being. I wish you the best of luck!!! Take pictures and keep in touch Kelli > > I am wanting to go to have RNY bypass.
