This message was full of more information than you probably realize . I'd

like to point something out.

has been able to return to work after getting her implant. She finds that

her time is very busy now and doesn't have as much time to spend online with the

list as she did before. This is not at all uncommon and something people who

are looking into the implant need to recognize.

Once you have the implant and maps that work well for you, your life changes and

this is usually for the better. Quality of life issues are important and the

majority of people who have been thru this process become less active on these

lists because they have moved on in life. This is a positive thing and although

we miss them very much, it's something to congratulate. It has nothing to do

with not appreciating what you have. It is progress and exciting.

- congrats on your new job and your success with it. I'm thrilled for

you and want you to know that you gave many of those gifts you referred to.

Thank You.

Alice

Hi and everyone,

Good to see you and glad you are able to be so busy with your

hearing world again.

Alice is absolutely right.. I remember my pre ci days.. days when I

clung to my computer as it was basically my only means of

communication unless I had someone do my calling for me. This could

be pretty embarrassing at times cuz most of us know there are times

when we'd really like to discuss something with maybe a dr or

someone else in a private manner, but we made it through and I now

find myself spending much less time on the pc these days just to

chat.

I got a phone plan that includes long distance for a set price and I

am now making up for the last several years by calling my friends

frequently and getting all the latest gossip.. something I really

missed. Being able to talk to my family on the phone, one member for

the first time in our lives continues to be one of my most memorable

moments. We currently have 4 members of our immediate family with

ci's and all of us are extremely grateful for the chance to hear

again.

Anyhow, Just agreeing completely with what Alice says..

those of us who do remain here on the forums do so because we want

to help people through the process of investigating, receiving, and

learning to use a ci or to be of support if there are problems and

just in general to give back some of what our ci has done for us.

We've met many wonderful friends through the forums and for that I

guess I'd have to be thankful I was deaf and had the opportunity to

be here and to meet everyone.

Getting my ci has allowed me to be much more outgoing.. or more like

the person I was before I lost my hearing. It's allowed me to be

able to go out and talk to others about deafness.

I remember several years ago saying to myself that I'd give an arm

and a leg to be able to hear again. Well.. I didn't have to go that

far and I CAN hear again and I can hear well.

Those of you seeking more information or having questions, feel free

to email me privately or ask questions here on the forum.

No question is " dumb " to ask.. I'm sure all of us at one time or

another asked the exact questions you have running through your

minds right now.. Go ahead. ask.<smiles>

Here's hoping everyone who wants to hear again will be able to do so.

Hugs,

Hi Everyone and Welcome New Members!

Hi Friends,

I've been Missing In Action due to a crazy new job work schedule and the

holidays. Those of you who have just joined us have made a great New

resolution to learn more about CIs and have the chance to improve your

hearing. CIs

can be quite amazing as I sometimes hear better than " hearing " people in

noise.

Please post and let us be of support to you. The more you participate, the

more you get out of our forum...you'll have many gifts coming back to you.

Happy New Year!

You did a great job of explaining how busy life suddenly seems to

become once one adjusts to their CI, Alice. :-)

, I am so happy all is well for you and that you are now busy

with a new job. Best wishes for success & happiness at your new

workplace.

And now for a brief update before hopping off-line:

I AM STARTING BACK TO SCHOOL PART-TIME! I am so excited. It is hard

to imagine how fun learning will be now that I should be able to

hear & understand what the instructor will be saying. My first

course will be " Microcomputer Applications " .
