Hi Larry,

You and I are having our surgeries on the same date! Good luck with

your journey and have fun too! I'm beginning to get excited about

the possibilities. You didn't tell us which implant you chose...let

us know your choice and why.

Hi Lary,

I just want to wish you good luck on your surgery and after. My brother,

who is also a Norries had his surgery in August and will be activated on

the date of your surgery. He has received bilateral implants.

Larry,

I was wondering what happened to you. <smile> Glad you made it successfully

through your CI evaluation! Best of luck to you during your surgery! I bet

you must be very excited!!

As for myself, I met with my surgeon last week. I'm in the process of

waiting for insurance approval which should only take 2-3 weeks, if that.

Once approval is received, I will be given a surgery date.

In the meantime, I will be meeting with my CI audi to discuss each of the 3

implant brands.

Again, all the best to you and congratulations!! <smile>

Hi ,

I am looking forward to the ci, but still quite depressed. My wife is in the

hospital again, this time to remove her gall bladder. they had to cut her open

because of all the stones. She also has issues with her sugar. This hasn't been

a very good summer for my Sharon.

I wish you all god's blessings for your implant. I am getting the nucleus 24

on my left side. I am surprised this is moving so smoothly. I decided to get two

bwps.

We moved to our new apartment last week and it is much nicer.

I guess i will say 73s for now. ttyl Larry

Hello Jacques,

November? Wouldn't my activation be a lovely Christmas present? I thought

about going bilateral, but I will admit to being scared. The ci surgeon told me

the implant would give me more fidelity in my right ear where I have less nerve

damage but if I do that, I have no form of communication. I am totally blind.

I guess I will go for now. Thanks again for the congrats! Larry

Hi Larry,

I'm sorry to hear the news about your wife. Please let her know that I'm

thinking of her. My father was a diabetic, so I understand exactly what you

and your wife are going through. I'll keep thinking good thoughts for you

both. <smile>

Like you, I will also have my left ear implanted. As for which implant, it

will either be the Nucleus 24C or Advanced Bionics' HiRes 90K. I've already

made a list of the features I'd like. Now all I need to do is to see each of

the devices and ask my CI audi about the different speech strategies offered

on each implant.

Here's wishing you all the best for your wife as well as your upcoming

surgery date.

Take care,

Larry,

Why did you decide on 2 BWPs? How much hearing do you have left in the right

ear?

Hello ,

Thank you so much for your nice note. It was appreciated very much.

I spoke with Sharon awhile ago and she seemed to be in lala land. This really

concerns me. I hope they aren't giving her thorazine or haldol or some other

nasty psychotic word.

Hello Gayle,

I've heard so many good things about the Neucleus 24c. This is why I chose

it. I had to choose one of them.

I plan to celebrate after my Ci. My mom and sister will be coming down from

Monette to help me. I am going to ask them to fix me some homemade chicken soup,

(oh no, Dr. one doctor a day is enough) and I will have some peppermint

chocolate chip ice cream. ttyl Larry missing Sharon

Dear

Thanks for the encouraging words.

When did your brother first lose his hearing? Are any members of your family

bessides your fammily afflicted with Norrie's? I have a nephew who also has

norrie's, but he is losing his hearing faster than I lost mind. He is in his

20's and has a severe hearing loss. When I was in my 20s I had a moderate

hearing loss. I was born with perfect hearing.

Hi Larry,

This is Jacques, 's brother. As long as I can remember I had severe

hearing problemens. I seriously think that I had never been perfect. As a

teen I was allready followed every 3 monts for controls. In 1989 I asked to

a rehab center in Montreal a lot of questions about implants. At that time

I have been told by au audie that implants were only made on persons

completely wirhout any hearing. It il no longer the case today. I remember

that at that I time, I had strongly been frustrated by this answer. Last

April I have been told that it is quite impossible that I will not improve

a lot afrter hook-up. I am going to experience that in 20 days from today.

Foor the rest of the family I have a brother and two cousins affected by

this terrible disease. I hope everything will go well for you. Hope also

that your wife will will recover promptly. That reminds me of , my

wife, now deceased 3 hears ago. She had been a dialysis case for 15 hears

before going. Have a good day.

Friendly,

Jacques

Dear Jacques,

Is your brother and cousins totally blind? Do they have seizures and other

mental problems. I hope this wasn't too personal.

I had good hearing untill I was 16 years old, but I was too stubborn to wear

hearing aids. I finally had to bite the bullet when I was twenty. I am now

almost 55 years old and I'm looking forward to having my ci and listening to

music. My ultimate goal is to go bilateral. I can tell I am losing hearing in

the right ear also at a very rapid pace. I have only 12% left in that ear and 0%

in my left ear. I wish you much success on your hookup. Don't let the naysayers

try to discourage you. I've seen many on this list who has never had hearing in

the past that are amazed by the ci. Have faith. God will be with us.

Sincerely,

Larry without Sharon

Hello Larry,

I am rebounding on this message and, if you already have the answers,

sorry. I had some meetings the last two days and thus was away from my

machine much. In our familly, I have never heard of Norries having seizures

but we do have some serious blod circulations problems and have a tendency

for low-presure so, for example, on my Medic Alert bracelet it is marked:

hypotension.

We all seem to be lucky: no mental problems related to Norries. Your

attitude towards hearing aids is very well what generally occurs in most

people. As for me' when I started to have an Hearing aid, I was in my

twenties but I had it and wore it only when I felt it nec and thi swas

onluy when I was interviewing but, i guess I did wait for as long as I

could and probably too long before I had to capitulate and wear them all

the time. I had been told, if you wear constantly your hearing aids, you

will become dependent on them and thi swill make you more deaf: of course,

that is nonsense but is the reason why we wait too long, avoiding to face

our real situation.

I do hope you get the most of your next implant and the one after and also,

I hope you wife well get better so she can enjoy your coming back in the

sound world.

Friendly,

Jean

Hello, Jean

Yeah for low blood pressure! Doesn't this mean I can have all the salt I

want? I crave salt. I don't have hypotention, but have trouble with severe

anemia which puts me in the hospital if not monitored from time to time.

Do you know of any websites where I can read of developments concerning

Norrie's?

I am counting the days before my ci surgery. Only 18 to go!!!

Sincerely,

Larry without Sharon

Hello, Everyone,

Thanks so much for all of your prayers and good wishes.

As we walked the boardwalk in beautiful Atlantic City, NJ today, my

husband, Jeff, spoke with Irene in Dr. Roland's office and they arranged

everything for my upcoming bilateral event! LOL My surgery date is set for

September

9, with time for the physical the day before. We haven't reached the

audiologist yet, but I'm sure we'll be able to set activation before Sept. 30.

I'm every excited and want to thank everyone for all their help and prayers.

I'll keep you posted!
