Guest guest
Just FYI because I am only 2 weeks post-op, I was drinking with the taco bell binge because I didn't want to stretch the pouch. I am not at the weight loss stage yet and knew that. I knew that if I stretched my pouch, I would be doing even more damage to it than the taco bell alone would do. I drink SF Kool-aid because I like it, I know it doesn't make much of a difference caloric wise when you are chowing down on taco bell. I know I also shouldn't be eating solids because of the risk of stretching the pouch too soon, that is why after every bite or two I took, I swallowed a gulp of drink to wash it through the pouch before it would stretch out (I could actually feel it going through the pouch). If I were to not drink with my meal, I would risk alot more problems with the band than if I did at this point. If I am wrong here Nina, please inform me so. I would be more than glad to stop drinking with my meal, I actually have to make myself do it now. If you think I am ready to start 'using' the pouch according to the rules, or if you think I would be better to continue drinking liquid with meals so I don't stretch the pouch too early, let me know, please! I know I didn't follow the doc orders very good, but I don't want to make things any worse either. I hope this explains why I did what I did. I already know Taco Bell was bad, and I binged, but I tried to not make it as bad as it could have been. I know the rules, and I know I cheated the diet completely, I never denied that. I am trying to decrease the complications that could happen due to my negligence. As far as I know, I was doing the best with what I had done in prevention. Guest guest
Robin, we worry that now you are drinking while you eat, because you are starting a bad habit. Are you sure that you will be able to stop drinking when you get a fill? Seems like you have a hard time making commentments to yourself. I can not judge you because I too did not follow the diet to a T. But I worry that you will fail or you will not loose as much weight as you should. Look at yourself in the mirror, look at how pretty you are and tell yourself I am worth tring harder to stick to the diet. I don't want to have complications with my band. Look at how pretty my face is, imagine how fine you will be when you loose the weight. Have you at least tried mushies? You could probably eat them and not have to drink. Please don't think we are trying to be hard on you, we do care. Guest guest
I think you guys worry more about me than you should. I am talking on here about one time incidents!! I am eating mushies, and yes they work to a point, at times. It's just occasionally I will want that something else...you know...that forbidden fruit. But I am being cautious not to intentionally make myself sick, and I don't. No PBing or vomiting coming from me! And YES I can stop drinking with my meals when the time comes, with no problem. Because I didn't drink with meals before surgery either. I force the fluid down with 'solids' because I don't want to stress the pouch before it should be. I'm gonna quit being honest with you guys if you are going to continually believe I am throwing all this money away I paid for surgery! I only tell this board what I tell them so that others can see that this surgery is NO walk in the park, and there WILL be times of failure, and how to best deal with that failure in the best way you can. Now if we were all 100% commited to everything, we wouldn't need to come to this board now would we? So quit worrying about me and take care of yourselves. When and if...something happens to me...then feel free to worry all you want.lol. I'm only trying to inform everyone of what is going on with Robin, thats all. Please everyone, stop worrying so much!!!! I will be fine, and am doing fine. I'll be the first to let ya know if I'm not.lol. Guest guest
Hi there, I read your post this morning, and I could actually relate to you. I don't sit there and eat and wash my food down,...but I have always had a cup of something hot sitting by my plate in case I get stuck,..or feeling uncomfy. It helps me. I don't depend on it and I don't play games with it. I recognize the difference in my hunger when I don't drink anything...it lasts a lot longer, and so I only use the fluid if I feel like I'm getting stuck. I got a really tight fill in July andif I didn't have fluids then with my meal, I would not have been eating anything. It's great to let someone know when they might be on the wrong trck with something,...but we all know the rules and we should also refresh on them every now and then,...but it's also very important to remember that we are all different and have our own personal ways of dealing with stuff and how we're going to fix it. This site is an awesome place to get some advice and share what's happening with each other. Glad we're all here for one another. Guest guest
I am working on a FAQ for the list. Here are some terms you may hear list members use: 1. PB -- Productive Burp-- Also the same as vomiting, but usually used when a small portion of food comes up because you have either: a. Eaten too much b. Not chewed your food well enough c. Eaten something (like bread, or rice) that gets stuck 2. Slime- When you get something stuck, your body starts to produce thick saliva to try and pass it through the stoma. The saliva will come up and you will have to spit it out. If you PB the slime, it is like throwing up a jelly fish! 3. Lapband-- A gastric band device is introduced through tiny (1cm) incisions in the abdomen and is placed around the upper part of the stomach. The resulting pouch (or the "new stomach") dramatically reduces the functional capacity of the stomach. 4. Port -- This is the access port where a "fill doctor" will stick a needle filled with saline in, and "Fill" the band in order to have more restriction. 5. NSV: Non-scale victory -- a weight-loss achievement that has little to do with numbers 6. WLS: Weight-loss surgery 7. MO: Morbid Obesity (or morbidly obese)8. BMI: Body Mass Index9. GBP: Gastric bypass surgery10. RNY: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (the most popular type of bariatric surgery)11. DS: Duodenal switch (another type of bariatric surgery)12. NSAIDS: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (a class of painkillers--which includes ibuprofen--bandsters should try to avoid because they can add to ulcer risk).
