Shame Shame Shame on any of them who subscribe to the practice of

playing judge, jury, exicutioner and GOD! They are only supposed to

be helping not hindering! I am sickend by it! I am infuriated

because I am beginning to see that Chauncey's own doctor

Yep, unfortunately you will always find a doctor here and there that thinks

you are not " wise " enough to know what is best for yourself. My friend DID

get a second interpreter, tried another consultation, to no avail. Her medical

insurance is based in a group....even if she went outside to another doc they

will only honor the opinion of the doctors in their group. The bottom line

is that all of this is based on money. She is not getting a CI because they

don't think it will enhance her quality of life and it would not be ( in their

opinion) worth the expense. She spent an entire year struggling with this (

even had an attorney at her second appeal hearing) is tired and did give up on

her quest to have a CI. Who knows, maybe later she will try it again. She

was very depressed from all of it.

the technology of a CI is forever changing and improving three yrs ago

going bilateral was unheard of three yrs ago or even two yrs ago doctors

caution that people who had been deaf for long periods of time world never

understand speech but time and time again people have proven this wrong

with the ongoing upgrading of CI's plus research and more skilled CI teams

improvements are amazing

for someone who has been deaf all their lives and now wishes to hear .... a

CI can offer this a women who is 58 yrs old may not become proficient in

understanding speech but she can experience environmental sounds this

enriches life it offers a safety factor it enhances one's mental

health

and it's certainly not a waste of money

it's amazing and very sad that doctors take on the role of god's

many doctors are not up to date on information regarding CI's therefore rely on

older information that is outdated or many doctors are afraid of

changes

this 58 yr. old women has done just fine so why rock the boat and it

is the doctors that insurance companies listen too the best thing

for this women to do it find a top notch CI clinic who is willing to submit

tons of data and information supporting an implant having a Big Shot

Expert

CI doc can sway insurance companies since it is these doctors who are on the

cutting edge of technology but it's mind boggling to me as to why this

women need go through such extremes to get what she rightfully deserves

sad for sure

I agree....it's very mind boggling. The whole process of her being denied a

CI took a year. We were all worn out with it. Fighting the system can take

a toll on you. It's like knocking your head against a brick wall sometimes.

Hopefully her husband will retire early and she will qualify for Medicare.

I will suggest she get a Medicare supplemental policy and we can start again

in her quest for a CI. I am willing to help her again...just don't know if she

would want to get her hopes up again...she got very depressed after all was

said and done.

You may look at purchasing individual insurance coverage from a cochlear

friendly insurance co. Check with cochlear to see who they reccomend
