What causes it? Do you feel it if it has slipped? Would it show up on a fill xray? One of my med (Effexor) I have to open the capsule and sprinkle on applesauce (per the drug manufacturer). This has been okay by Dr. Aceves. It just kind of freaks me out because of the thickness of the applesauce. Will it cause band slippage? (I just thought I could get baby applesauce). Anyone else out there on liquid diet with Effexor?I'm just now noticing (too much going on before I guess :-) that my large incision is sore. Other than meds, heating pad okay? Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, sip all day like another poster stated. You can use a straw, too. Also, popsickels and jello count as liquids. I lived on them at first. Don't forget your apple juice and cold/hot tea. Hot tea was very soothing to me. Slippage occurs (I believe) when you vomit or maybe overstuff your pouch. If you're just doing liquids the first 2 weeks as you should you will have no problems. Just focus on healing and letting the swelling go down. When you have your first fill in 8 weeks or so have it done under fluroscopy if you want so you and your MD can see how your tummy is doing. Apple sauce with your meds is ok, especially since Dr. A said so. Just remember only enough applesauce to get it down. I mixed my meds with jello. I'm a month out and still have weird pains periodically in my stomach and sometimes in my incisions. Not all the time , just sometimes. Like right now, my port site feels like it's pulling but early nothing. The left breast pain is probably gas. Go slow and take it ez. Ginger > > I feel thirsty a lot. Guest guest
THANKS, GINGER. . . THAT BRINGS UP ANOTHER QUESTION WITH THE JELLO AND POPCICLES. SOMETIMES I'VE HAD FOUR (SINGLE) POPCICLES IN A ROW. IS THAT TOO MANY? I'M JUST SO THIRSTY THE COLD FEELS SO GOOD. OR I'VE HAD A TWIN POP AND THEN A JELLO. IS THAT TOO MUCH? IT SEEMS I'M HUNGRY MOST OF THE TIME.(TRUTHFULLY, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S HUNGER OR GAS RUMBLINGS - I DO TAKE GAS X AND IT HELPS). ANYWAY, IT SEEMS LIKE I'M EITHER SIPPING LIQUIDS OR DOING A POPCICLE OR JELLO EVERY HOUR OR SO. AM I OVER DOING IT? BY THE WAY, I THINK THE ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS IN THE SUGAR FREE POPSICLES AND JELLO CONTRIBUTE TO THE GAS????? IT'S FUNNY HOW YOU THINK YOU'RE PREPARED (I'VE READ AND RE-READ ALL THE MATERIAL) AND THEN WHEN YOU'RE LIVING IT, YOUR MIND GOES BLANK. I THINK I JUST NOW REALIZE THIS ISN'T REALLY " MINOR " SURGERY. DUH. . . NO REGRETS THOUGH. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FUTURE. I'M JUST SORRY I TOLD MY EMPLOYER I'D GO BACK TO WORK TOMORROW. I REALLY DON'T FEEL THE ENERGY TO GO. HOW MUCH TIME OFF DO PEOPLE NORMALLY TAKE WITH THIS SURGERY????? THANKS! cHERYL > > > > I feel thirsty a lot. I'm 4 days post op and I would like to just > down > > a glass of cool water. Guest guest
Cheryl, you need all the fluids you can get. If you feel thirsty it's your body telling you to drink. 4 popsickles is not too much. Just go slow. You are not over doing it. Are you also drinking apple juice and maybe gatoraid. It's ok to be drinking all the time. Your body needs this to heal. We can live without food for a long time, but we cannot live without fluids. A single popsickle is only a couple of ounces of fluid. You should go for 48 to 64 ozs a day. Alot I know. I have trouble in this area but every day I try. Remember, jello and popsicles and broth all count towards that 64oz number. My stomack grumbled and growled and quivered and danced for days. It's just adjusting to the band. This is normal. It might be gas, mine wasn't. It just talked alot!! I went back to work 7 days postop. I have a desk job and just took it easy. I was tired the first week but started drinking protien drinks and felt better. Your doing good. Take care of your tummy. Ginger > > > > > > I feel thirsty a lot. Guest guest
Ginger - You've got that stomach thing right!!! ha ha ha I had to laugh. You described it perfectly. I'm not " measuring " for 64oz - I probably ought to for at least one day so I'll know. I am drinking all the time - I always have a drink to sip on and in between I'm doing the popsicles, jello or broth. I must be getting enough because I am going to the potty a lot - a few times I've had to stop myself from running to there! :-) When I add some protein powder to my juice or gatorade it helps me to not be hungry so often. Is that the idea? What about " flat " soda (at some point)? Do you drink it ever? I'm babying my tummy and following the rules for healing now, I just wondered for in the future??? I just love the taste of rootbeer and thought flat rootbeer over crushed ice would be a real treat some times. It's so good to have you " Probands " out there! Thanks! Guest guest
NINA: I ACTUALLY ASKED ABOUT " FLAT " SODA ON OCCASION TO MIX WITH POWDER PROTEIN. FLAT SODA IS A CAN THAT'S BEEN OPENED FOR 24 HOURS IN THE FRIDGE AND HAS NO FIZZ (BUBBLES) LEFT. OR A BOTTLE OF SODA YOU SHAKE UP AND GET ALL THE FIZZ OUT. I READ IN THE POST SURGERY RULES SODA IS NOT ALLOWED AND I UNDERSTAND WHY. I WAS ASKING ABOUT " FLAT " SUGAR FREE SODA. OR IS ALL SODA OUT FOREVER????? THANKS! Guest guest
I guess flat would be fine, but why would you drink flat soda with protein??? LOL Plenty of better tasting things out there with protein. But flat soda will not warm your band in any way. I suspect you will not drink it often, I cannot imagine you will like it, I even imagine it warm, not sure why. Guest guest
Of course you're right about flat soda not tasting good. I just saw a receipe to use flat diet root beer w/vanilla protein and some other stuff in the blender. Anyway, it is suppose to taste like a rootbeer float. If you've never had a rootbeer float, it's rootbeer and vanilla ice cream. I just like the taste of rootbeer and thought that would be a healthier way to have it once in a while. :-) > > > > > > > > > > > > I feel thirsty a lot. Guest guest
Hi, the protein powder is a good idea. I drink an Isopure clear drink everyday. It really helps my energy and I'm not as hungry. They don't taste great but they are tolerable. There are others, just make sure it's clear until you advance to the full liquid stage and can have creamed soups and stuff. I get my drinks at GNC. I think you can order them on line but will have to pay for shipping. Try different kinds until you find the one you like. Watch the carbs, though. Try and get 40-60gms of protein in a day. OK, so between the 64ozs of fluids and the 40-60 gms of protein that should keep you busy in the bathroom and feeling a little more satisfied. (lol)! :-) Ginger > > > > > > > > > > I feel thirsty a lot. I'm 4 days post op and I would like > to > > > just > > > > down > > > > > a glass of cool water. Of course, I don't. Guest guest
Hi Nina, I usually speak to , but it seems like you are the person to talk to. LOL My friend Naomi and myself are schedule for surgery on June 30,2006. I hear the bandsters talking about a pre-op diet. When do we start that and were can we find that information. Is there aything else that we need to do before surgery. We are driving in with our husbands so we don't need transporation to the hotel. Do we go directly to the Hotel and check or do we go to the hospital first for the pre-op. We are checking in on Thursday afternoon. Do we check in to the hotel and call you and tell you we are there. Can you please clarify a few things before our big day. Thank you.
