Guest guest
Lee, Oh, I see. Yes, I know a few people who have guide dogs that can do the same. It's amazing how much these wonderful animals can learn and how much they add to our lives.
Guest guest
D., Thank you for your kind wishes. I appreciate it! <hugs> In regards to your puppy: I've been told that it's not difficult at all to train a dog for alert purposes. One way this can be done is by directing your puppy back and forth between you and the object/noise you want to be alerted to. For example, if you'd like to be alerted to the phone, you would tap the phone when it rings, praise your dog and bring them back to your couch or chair (or wherever you'd like them to alert you). This process should be repeated several times so that your dog can begin to associate an object with the sound that it makes. The same thing can be done with respect to the microwave or doorbell. Above anything else, repetition and reward are very important because it gives your dog (or in your case, your puppy) a reason to work and please. Last year I received an e-mail from someone who trained their own dog for this purpose. I wish I had that e-mail. Unfortunately, it's on my old computer but I'll try to find it and post the information here. Otherwise, I wonder if there's a school in your area who could do this training with you in your home? If I can find any good training articles, I'll be sure to pass them along!

Guest guest
, So in other words, you're telling me that I'm going to take a morning walk at 7:00 AM, have lunch at noon, visit a friend at 1:30, eat dinner at 5:00, check e-mail at 6:00 and call it a night at 10:00? You're also telling me to read the latest best seller and to do whatever I want on the weekend. Got it. Duly noted. Gosh, you're better than an electronic organizer. Better yet, you don't take batteries! <grin>
