Guest guest
I drove into Mexico fro surgery and for a fill. While I was in the hospital my husband stayed on the US side so he crossed twice a day. The first time (for surgery), we rented a car through Avis. The extra insurance cost us 25.00 a day. The second time (for my fill) we took our own car. We didn’t get any insurance. No one asked us for any permits either time. The hospital is a stones throw from the border. I am driving back into Mexico on Wednesday for my second fill. Once you get into Mexico it is one straight street to the hospital and one turn to get to the US. It is simple. You can always walk across and get a taxi. But when you leave you will have to wait in a long line sometimes in the sun standing for hours. I am sure everything will be fine. Check with your auto insurance company. Some of them still cover you if you are with in 25 miles of the border. Guest guest
i called my insurance company Nationwide, and they siad so long as i am 50 miles from the border i was covered - although at the time i did not think about whether as far as the mexican government was concerned that was good enough. another time i also drive and parked on the cali side and took a taxi to the hospital - that was more convenient as when i drove thru i had to wait over 2 hours in 125 heat to get across and my air was broke at that time. walking across even if there is a gigantic line is only about 20 minutes. i found it more convenient capriseTammy <tammyntod@...> wrote: Hi Everyone,I have a question to those of you who have driven into Mexico yourself. Guest guest
Hi Caprise, Where did you leave your car parked at?? While I was doing my research it said something about the Mexican Government and auto insurance. So that is why I think if I drive myself over I should get the insurance. 2 Hours!!! UUGGHH!!!! Was this on a weekend or weekday?? Tammy I. > Hi Everyone, > I have a question to those of you who have driven into Mexico > yourself. My Husband has to work so I am going to drag my kids along for the 5 hour drive!! I havent told them yet!! I am a little nervous about going across the border. Guest guest
Hey Tammy When I went to get my fill, we drove to Calexico and left our car at the Pep Boys parking lot and then we walked acrossed the border which was only 5 mins away and Yolanda picked us up on the other side. No problems with leaving the car and everything went smoothly, so if you dont want to risk driving into Mexico you might want to consider that option. Guest guest
Ya, I am going this Wednesday. I should get there at noon. (Thats when Nina told me to arrive) Everything will be fine. Just make sure you have their birth certificates to reenter the states. If we get to the border at the same time we could caravan there. But as you already know its just minutes from the crossing. The parking lot at the hospital is safe. If I was bringing my kids I would probably not walk the border. I just would feel better having them in my car. See you Wednesday. Guest guest
Tammy, you can buy auto insurance almost any where before you hit the border. They are pretty much at the same price range. I would only buy the auto insurance. We bought full coverage, because you never know and paid $28.00 for the day. Most of the time you don't even need it, but just to be on the safe side I would get full coverage. Guest guest
Hi Kira, That is the same time Nina told me to be there also. I am going to leave my house probably about 6am. I figured it is about a 5 hour drive for me and with potty stops and getting across the border that should give me plenty of time to be there by noon. Do you know where we go once we get there?? This is my 1st fill by Dr. A so I dont know where I am supposed to go once I get to the Hospital. Thanks, Tammy I. > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > I have a question to those of you who have driven into Mexico > > > > yourself. Guest guest
Hi , So you just stopped right by the border and purchased auto insurance?? Just like that?? I wonder if I can purchase online also. Although if it is that easy to get right when I get there I guess I could do it that way. Guest guest
Hi Tammy it's simple. You take in your registration and purchase your auto insurance, just like that. It's simple and easy, don't get all worked up about the insurance, because you really have nothing to worry about. They give you a copy of the insurance you purchased and your ready to go. There is auto insurance posted every where right before the border. The first time we bought it at a liquor store and this last time we went into a check cashing place. Same price both times. Good Luck, you'll be okay.Tammy <tammyntod@...> wrote: Hi ,So you just stopped right by the border and purchased auto insurance?? Just like that?? I wonder if I can purchase online also. Guest guest
It's real easy getting to Calexico, just take the 8 east once in San Diego stay on it through El Cajon and then you'll see a sign saying Calexico and that's where you take off...follow that straight through till you pass up Jack in the Box next to a gas station, the next street should be the main street, hang a right and just look for Pep Boys or the border just about 5 blcks. It's a boring ride once you get past San Diego, it's all the desert so take some tunes with you Kelli > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > I have a question to those of you who have driven into Mexico > > > yourself.
