Guest guest
I was the same way. But you will bond friendships with your fellow band buddies once you arrive at the airport. When I went it was 4 of us total and we were each other support. We went on walks and checked on each other after surgery. But not to mention the great staff that they have down there, you'll never alone!! Fear is to be expected but it will soon pass. Guest guest
I've got a little esh. I flew out from KY to San Diego by myself for the surgery. I got to the airport and the driver was waiting at the bottom of the escalator to the baggage claim with a sign with my name. He put my luggage in the van and drove me to the hospital in Mexicali. He took me inside and introduced me to Yolanda who practically held my had through all the testing I needed, etc. Then I met with Dr. Campos and he gave me a last minute discussion of the band, how it worked, do's and don'ts, etc. Then I left with the driver to go to the hotel. He handled the check-in and a bellhop took me to my room. I ordered room service that night. The next morning, I met the driver in the lobby and he took me back to the hospital and helped me find my room. Yolanda came around and told me what to do next, you know put on the hospital gown, etc. I laid in bed and a dude named came in and put in my IV. All the doctors came by one by one and checked on me and asked their questions. I went first that morning so they finally came and wheeled me in my bed to the operating room. I had to get myself on to the operating table from my bed. The last thing I remember was talking to the anesthesiologist after he injected something into my IV. I woke up in the recovery room as they were pulling the tube out of my throat. I still felt real tired so I just went back to sleep. After about an hour they wheeled me back to my room where I slept for another 45 minutes or so. Then I woke up and went to the restroom and changed back into my street clothes minus a shirt because I still had the IV in. The only pain I felt was about as bad as if you worked out too hard at the gym or pulled a muscle or something. Yolanda and Nina called my wife for me and I called her later to let her know I didn't die on the operating table. I just watched TV, got up and walked around the hospital every so often and blew on this weird little plastic thing one fo the doctors gave me every so often. The TV was pretty good because they had a channel that was all violence all the time. On the last day I woke up and packed up and got inthe van and got driven back to San Diego airport, got on my flights and went home. I can't imagine how boring it would be if someone would have tried to come with me. TRINA ANTONOPOULOS wrote: Well I am pretty much terrified and excited at the same time. Guest guest
I went by myself the last weekend in October. The only thing that was diffucult was the trip home. It was physically taxing to say the least. There were other people there at the hospital so I had someone to compare notes with afterwards. You will be fine! Guest guest
, I am not having surgery on the 8th but I will be at the hospital on the 9th for a check-up. I always like to visit with new bandsters when I am there so, perhaps, if you are up to it, I will come by and see all the newbies. I know when I was there I really appreciated talking to and seeing someone who was banded already. Kind of helps put if all into perspective! See ya on the 9th! Guest guest
I wouldn't stress over going alone. You will be pretty mobile with a few hours of surgery. It may be a little tuff getting in and out of bed by yourself but a nurse will help you if necessary. I'll tell you this; I felt like I was on vacation.
